Hi my name is Thomas Jefferson. My nicknames are “man of the People” and Sage of Monticello.” I was born April 13, 1743, in Shadwell, Virginia. My father’s name was Peter Jefferson and my Mother’s name was Jane Randolph Jefferson. I married Martha Wales Skelton.
I have 6 children Martha, Jane, a son (he died Before we could give him a name), Mary, Lucy and Lucy. I studied college at William and Mary University. I was also a lawyer and a planter. My other government positions were: member of Virginia House of Burgesses; member of the continental Congress; governor of Virginia; Minister to France; Secretary of State; and vice president. I am paid $25, 000 a year. In 1792 I got four votes.
In 1796 I got sixty-eight votes. In 1800 I got fifteen votes. In 1804 I got one hundred and sixty-two votes. I wrote the Declaration of Independence and bought the Louisiana territory from France. Yes, I remember the day I bought it. I purchased it from Napoleon Bona part.
This expanded the United States from the Mississippi River to the Rocky Mountains. I bought it because we were becoming over populated and they were thinking about closing the Mississippi River. In 1801 I sent Robert Livingston to France to purchase New Orleans. Naploean refused to let me buy it so I sent James Monroe. I hoped that he would convince Napolean to sell it but Napolean offered me all of Louisiana taro tory… It cost me 15 million dollars.
I asked Meriwether Lewis to explore the area. Lewis was ordered to write accounts of all they did, each species encountered, details of cultures they met, maps of the land – everything. He often complained about the bugs but most of all the mosquitos. The expedition traveled over 8000 total miles over a period of 2 years, 4 months and 10 days. Lewis guessed that once they had reached the pacific they had traveled 4, 162 miles from the mouth of the Missouri. Lewis also had a dog and the dog went on the expedition with him.

The dog survived the whole expedition. On the expedition they named a small river, Independance River.
