To persuade my audience how joining the Army can benefit them.
Introduction:
Who in here would like to go to school for free? Who would like to get paid for going to school? Does anyone know what I am talking about? That’s right I am talking about the US Army. How many of you have ever been handed a brochure for the Army only to think to yourself ” Yeah Right” and then throw it away? Well that happened to me and I have been in the US Army for almost seven years now. During this time I have had first hand experience of many of the benefits that I am going to explain to you today.
Preview:
There are three different branches of the Army you can enlist in. The first is Active Army, the second is Army Reserves, and the third is Army National Guard. Now as different as these three are, the benefits are primarily the same. Today I am going to explain to you, what I feel are three main areas in the Army Reserve benefits that are important. First is the enlistment bonus, Second is training benefits, Third and most important to me, the school benefits.

In conclusion, I would like to reiterate my three main points. First, just by signing up you get a chunk of change to fill your pockets. Second, training that continuously challenges your mind and body. Last but not least, the ability to go to school for free. Now that I have explained to you some of the benefits that the Army can offer you, I can only hope that you seriously consider the army as a part of your life.

Say if you were just joining the army fresh out of high school then you bonus would depend on what your job was in the army. This bonus could reach up to $8,000. Now if you join the army with some college under your belt, things are entirely different. You could qualify for cash bonus up to 20,000, college money for up to 50,000 college loans repaid up to 65,000 in student loans you all ready have.
B. Depending on you civilian life….
Say you have a two or four year degree. It will get you a larger initial bonus than someone who does not. Plus you are going to be promoted before you even enter basic training which means more money as you train.
There is also a program jokingly refereed to as the “screw your buddy program”. This is where you get a friend or someone you refer to join the army. Once they join you automatically get promoted which means more money. If you get two or more to join you also start to get bonuses out of the deal.

Transitions… after you enlist you have to go to basic training followed by AIT, which stands for advanced individual training.
II. You will first experience a 9-week basic training course of intense mental and physical training. This training benefits your body physically because it gets you in shape. You mind is also is challenged be cause of the different daily tasks you have to overcome.
After basic and AIT, you have to continue your education in the army by attending Military leadership schools. These continuous professional development courses are focused to develop you leadership skills in the military. These skills easily transfer over to your civilian life. Which can benefit you in your current job.
The best part of the army reserves is it requires so little of your time in life. It’s just a part time job. One weekend a month and two weeks a year. Can you possibly think of another part time job that can offer these kinds of benefits that can help you in you civilian life? Well we have yet to get to the best part. The school benefits… As I stand here before you, I am in this class for free because of the following three school assistance programs available.

Montgomery GI bill
If you want to go to college, there are a variety of financial aid programs to choose from. The most popular is the Montgomery GI Bill All soldiers that enter the army are offered the GI bill. The soldier contributes $100 a month, then after the first year the government contributes $18,672 bringing the grand total to $19,872. After you leave the service you are paid according to school attendance. You can be a full-time student and serve just part-time in the Army Reserve. You can earn more than $9,400 for college through the Montgomery GI Bill and more than $22,000 in pay during a six-year enlistment.
UP Front tuition assistance
This benefit is offered to soldiers earning their first credential at the diploma, certificate associate, baccalaureate or graduate level. However you cannot study for a lower level degree than you currently have. Now some basic information about TA is it covers 75% of the cost of tuition not to exceed $187.50 per semester hour or $125 per quarter hour. The max a year you can use is $3,500.
SLRP
The Army Reserve can help Soldiers pay off student loans they’ve taken out in the past, if they attended schools on an approved Perkins, Stafford or other Department of Education Guaranteed Student Loan. If qualified, the Army Reserve will pay off student loans at 15 percent of the loan amount or $1,500 per year, whichever is greater, up to $10,000.
