This report is based on an international company. Zambia is among the countries that depend on global economy in order for business to survive it is evident that organisation luck relentless search of initiative that may create competitive advantage which is demonstrated by decoded into the performances of the company. Thus this report is about finding better ways on how learning or development function should be conducted and how these plays a huge role to the organisation.
Lusaka Intercontinental Hotel is one of the 5 stars hotels in Zambia which is situated in the capital city of Zambia. Since it was established, intercontinental was said to be the best of the hotels in Zambia with highest customers review. Recently, the organisation has dramatically dropped its customer review from 99% to 67% compared to Pamodzi hotel with 83% and Ridgway hotel having the highest review with 84 %( Booking.com/Lusaka-Hotels), this could be due to many factors, for example during the recent recession the economy is still unstable which has left a lot of people to leave their jobs, however these changes has left the employers to be careful when choosing the right person for the job and they can only do that through adopting the learning development strategy of the organisation.

Lusaka international hotel has many staffs of which each have different key responsibilities such as the receptionist, house keeper, and concierge and room service delivery. These people are the ones that need training intervention and development in order for the trainee to achieve them. However, intercontinental focuses mainly on the following:
Behaviour modelling T & D methods where members of staff learn through seeing others such as handling complaints or resisting to change just to mention a few, the company also uses Twittering methods where competent staffs are chosen for the post.
In-Basket Training is the other common method that the organisation uses, trainee will be able to handle task in proper order and get more knowledge through practicing on their own, Power and Waddell( 2004) stated that “the learning initiative that is being developed in the organisation which hasn’t got a culture backing will definitely reduce the likelihood of being prosperous”. I personally agree with power and Waddell theory, looking at the training methods delivered, Intercontinental has seen not to be successful. However, the only way to be process is to recommend some additional methods of training which will be discussed in task 2.
Task 2:
As discussed above, the training system that Intercontinental hotel applies is not very effective as Frances and Bee ( 2003:8),stated that the only factor that could cause change in an organisation are those internally and who are direct involved in the organisation such as, receptionist, house keeper, concierge and room service delivery. In order for the organisation to be expert, focused and motivated in all areas additional training should be provided. However before providing any training, an analysis has to be carried out how the training will be conducted and how the trainer will fit into the organisational culture. It is therefore advisable that the organisational uses the following training methods such as:
Case studies, this method is very important as it will assist the learner to understand better as the topic will be studied in groups.

Under these methods the new employee is assigned to a specific job at a machine or workshop or laboratory. Role play: Participants will use role play acting as though in real life by responding to specific problems for example how to communicate to customers. This method will also teach staff on how to deal or handle difficult situation within the organisation.
Instructor Led: this is another method which the company should consider where training is being delivered face to face with a small number of groups. The group will be able to ask any question as they will feel comfortable being a small group, this will also allows the trainer to captures the workers interest and then use the software suitably.
Apprenticeship Training is when a trainee works and study at the same time. This is very ideal as trainees will acquire experience and knowledge in the field of their choice. The organisation will also save time and cost training workers who haven’t got experience by employing a candidate who has experience and well familiar with the job post.
