TRANSFORMATION OF AMERICA FORM MILITARILIZED INDUSTRIAL NATION TO POWERFUL MILITARY FORCE. (1898 1941) Before 1898, Americans perspective seems to be procrastinating to foreign wars, even though world suffered from tyranny. In 1898, Americans fate was altered by one major decision. The nation experienced a historic turn from being republic to becoming a monarchy. In this year the government decided to host a war against Spanish to free Cuba and Philippines from the Spanish despotism. American president McKinley became the pioneer to introduce the new concept though the process of alteration initiated about a century ago. The triggering factor for the war aroused when Cubans concerned for independence from Spain. Few American investors in Cuba were ill-treated, but this was not the only reason behind the war. When McKinley took over the post he was in an idea to expand Americas mission in the world. His plans for the war were later commented as Large Policy. This was the first lead by United States after realizing its Global Responsibility for peace.
At the end of Spanish-American war, U.S took over Puerto Rico and freed Cuba and annexed the Hawaiian Islands. The war ended when Filipino fighters surrendered and Aguinaldo was captured in March 1901. By then Americans power grew in Asian countries and entered into imperialistic struggle in the Far East. American success were proved when Secretary of State John Hay announced publicly the open Door policy in China: American diplomatic, political, and if necessary, military power would be functioned to force free trade throughout China. In February 1917, United States ruined the diplomatic relations with Germany resulting in World War I, which involved a difficult conflict between several European powers. The war changed the total regime of the nation.
In “War and the State in Africa,” Jeffrey Herbst states that “…it should be recognized that there is very little evidence that African countries, or many others in the Third World, will be able to find peaceful ways to strengthen the state and develop national identities.” Do you agree with Herbst’s argument? Why? Although African countries are facing many severe ...
It served as the greatest war of that time. President Woodrow Wilson gave full power to bring the economy, federal jurisdiction, military service and public opinion under the control of the state. This war utilized more than 100,000 lives of American soldiers. In January 1918, Lenin signed a peace treaty with the Central Powers. Thus World War I came to an end. As a consequence of the war was Vladimir Lenin and communalism came to power in Russia and another consequence was total defeat of Germany and arising of Adolf Hitler and Socialism. Between 1898 and 1919, the new ideas of the great Americans McKinley, and Theodore Roosevelt which was brought to fulfillment by Woodrow Wilson, has made the nation immensely powerful military force throughout the world.
Wilson in his oratory to public has stated that I promise the people of the warning nation including the American people, a just world order that would make the world itself at last free and assure peace for all time. In 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor and Germany declared war on United States. Prior to 1941, Democratic Party and Republican Party of U.S opposed the countries participation in foreign wars. Hence, President protected the declaration of war from congress against Japan and Germany. During 1930s and 1940s the U.S state departments were against Germany and Eastern European Jews entering the nation and also prohibited a famous ship called St. Louis from entering the country. This act of the U.S government motivated the Germans to call for war. Wilson thus seeded the ever growing concept of war in American history. Woodrow Wilson has changed the country permanently and only his strong involvement in prior war, triggered America to World War II.
