Since the age of four I was pursuing recitals of ‘Bharat Natyam’ and at the age of seven my parents wanted me to give stage performance on the day of annual function of my school. My arguments of being too young to face big audience didn’t save me from the situation. I distinctly remember how tightly I had been holding the curtain on the stage to hide my shivering and my stare at other’s face with a hope for help only drew blank look from them. The call of my name and the fear of a scolding from my teacher pushed me to well lighted stage where I stood motionless facing audience and for first few second my wide open eyes tried to locate mom for no good.
To my surprise from well-lighted place I couldn’t see any one in the audience, sitting in dark. Thereafter my immediate feeling that, no one is seeing me, made me perform my dance as my routine recital. My misconception broke only when once again after twenty minutes I stood as stoned on the stage and thundering voice of continued claps made me learn a lesson ” biggest enemy i. e. fear resides in your mind.” This changed the whole spectrum and few years later and now I belive that I am distinctive in many respects and that makes me different from others.
As I grew in city Pune of India (called the oxford of east) with a burning desire to stand out in mass I realized that one has to be fearless and work hard in fields other than academics. The very belief propelled me to concentrate on developing my subcutaneous qualities such as intellect, attitude and personality. Even today in changed socio-economical environment in India women don’t enjoy equal status irrespective of being post graduate or professionally qualified. Seldom they acquire positions to lead. The thought of a young undergraduate girl, wanting to work for experience and pocket money, is good enough to raises many eyebrows. Unlike the majority of the Indian parents, mine instilled a strong education and work ethic in me.
Erikson believed that people develop in psychosocial stages. He emphasized developmental change throughout the human life span. In Erikson's theory, eight stages of development result as we go through the life span. Each stage consists of a crisis that must be faced. According to Erikson, this crisis is not a catastrophe but a turning point. The more an individual resolves the crises successfully, ...
Given our unique geographical circumstances, my parents and teachers modified their teaching to include “because you are a girl, you have to work even harder to be recognized.” As a result I am dedicated, ambitious, industrious and one who loves to accept challenges and do not believe in leaving a task undone; At Revlon, my experience of surpassing my targets by 150 % in the very first month still thrill me with all together different pleasure at the cost of working 100 hours a week. My strong work ethic, experience, positive attitude and initiative carried me on to many new and diverse assignments where I got the chance to further prove myself, consolidate confidence in myself. At Fisher, I can propagate my understanding of “work hard to party success” to make student life colorful. Personal qualities, such as industriousness, have certainly brought me recognition. However keen sense of inquisitiveness inspires me to take the initiative. To use peer’s suggestion is very important to me.
I have a positive attitude, and while I can be intense, I am not insipid. My attitude encompasses a “can do” thought process. I believe in ” the how-to-do-it always comes to a person who believes he can do it.” Peers pampering, my hunger for recognition coupled with attitude of “can do” pushed me at the age of twenty to the beauty contest organized by… an area with no control of mine.
Methods As we were interested in attitudes and experiences of our subjects we decided to use a qualitative approach to conduct our study. We wished our respondents to define their attitudes and experiences using their own words and meanings therefore it was considered that quantitative data was not appropriate for such a study. Qualitative study is more in-depth and much less structured than a ...
Even today I find difficult to digest that a girl with just normal looks can ever enjoy the pride of being crowned as the queen of the event sanding out among all. The combination of intelligence and positive attitude draped with my innocent middle class look leads to my results. My optimism encourages me and motivates colleagues with whom I work. At Fisher my attitude of “can-do” approach will support and mobilize team members Another distinctive quality is my ability to interact with people with different backgrounds. I am proud of being Indian – India known for its cultural diversity and the largest working democracy. My parents hail from northern part of India I was born and brought up in western part of India.
Naturally the circumstances made me to adapt other language and culture which strengthened my character in ways more than one that will be professional and socially beneficial for the years to come. Since my childhood, I had to follow one culture but was trained to be tolerant and be respectful to others. Transition from one culture to another has me to learn to deal with sensitive issues of different value systems linked to different people with different cultures. Thus I am comfortable in a variety of environments and manage with ease almost anyone. This attribute enhanced my personality fit for professional growth. I have managed to initiate many a conversations and endure, without a hint of laughter.
At Revlon, Nike and God rej I was the mouthpiece of my company and was in direct contact with the clients and other key members of the management. My work at all these companies has honed my oral and verbal communicational skills My strong interpersonal skills coupled with respect to others views enables me to work well in teams an asset that will complement the Fisher environment and also help me to become a better manager. The challenges and experiences during my work with Inamdar’s Heart Hospital added additional two tools to my armory. A smile and sense of humor sensibly utilized is really an ointment to the pain of the patients and wonderful mean for one to work under pressure to cope. At the hospital my and my flexibility enabled me to work quickly and making decisions in a rapidly changing environment ability to create a healthy laughing atmosphere helped me to cope with the stressful working. Later at Revlon, I often used humor to convince tough female customers and to help my coworkers relax.
Consider this statement in relation to how we understand and make sense of culture in the post? bureaucratic era. Introduction Culture is an important aspect of an identity. It is what we believe, how we behave and culture influences an identity’s decision making. In the fast paced, challenging classrooms and study groups of Fisher, laughter can be an excellent tool for defusing tension and building camaraderie. I am thankful that my varied experiences made me to enlarge a personality and an intellect for which I am remembered. With a deeply instilled work ethics, strong interpersonal skills, a high level of motivation, and excellence I have analyzed that irrespective of any profession one chooses to pursue her / his only problem is ‘how’ to crack when he / she can have five honest saviors i. e. ‘what, where, when, why and who’ to support but to use their help one has to have strong educational background too. At Fisher, Ohio State University I am confident to enrich environment with my focused approach, where I am strong and in return wish to grow in to a manager with global prospect.
