Values and Interests of Todays Generation Differences between various generations has been the question that bothered many minds. These differences were formed by the environment, the outside world that acted on young people, shaping the future individuals. Generations were affected by different environments and so their attitude towards the same questions and their values may vary greatly. The generation that currently has the prerogative to be called modern is the Millenial generation, which includes people born from 1980 to 2000. They are completely different from the previous generation generation X. They are much more open-minded, ready to try new things.
They are the most racially tolerant group that ever existed. They are used to working in teams and actually prefer that type of work to tuckling the problem on their own. They are optimistic, yet, they lack the idealism that was characteristic to baby boomers. They dont create unrealistic role models like James Bond for themselves, their idols are the real world people. They appreciate the concept of the family and they are used to being a part of it. They are good at multitasking like no other generation before them. If we ask ourselves the question what factors contributed to the formation of this generation, we probably wont be able to answer it in full. The analysis would be overcomlicated for there are too many aspects that have to be looked on.
Still, by looking at the environment that produced this generation – the micro world of their families and the outside influences – we may try to explain some of the qualities that are attributed to the millenials. One of the most important factors for the formation of the person is his or her family. The millenials were brought up by X-ers, people who generally missed out on normal family relations, people who were growing up in families with only one parent or where parents wouldnt give enough attention to their children. This enforced X-ers to make sure that no such thing will happen to their children, and so the millenials were surrounded by excessive parental care. This is why most millenials appreciate their families, they like to spend time with their parents and they trust them. It also contributed to the formation of strong, confident personalities who didnt have the insecurities of the previous generation. Another important influence for the millenials the Internet.
