Adolescents need self-esteem in order for them to achieve goals. When they are bullied they bully takes away that self-esteem and replaces it with self-doubt. Being verbally victimized is also linked to posttraumatic stress which children and teenagers definitely do not need in their life. People do not realize that verbal abuse is in fact abuse. Words can hurt and they do hurt adolescence. Everyone at one point of his or her life has heard this saying and thought nothing really of it. But it does come into consideration when thinking about standing up for someone. If you go back to the saying on the playground and think that the bully’s words aren’t really hurting that kid there just making them stronger.
That is a wrong assumption, those bullies aren’t only bullying them they are taking away one of the most important parts of them, their self-esteem and self assurance. That self esteem and self assurance is carried with children all through their life, through school, into getting a job and when contributing to a family. Questions still need to be answered and over time they will be.
This is a tough topic that needs a lot of analysis and backed up evidence. The answers are out there and this topic will be dealt with.
