The studies of non verbal communication in the work place and how important it is. The impact of nonverbal communication in organization: a survey and perception. The purpose of this article was to show the study the importance of nonverbal communication in the business world. Three different professors from two different colleges took surveys from a company on how the employees thought the importance of nonverbal communication was. The study was based on fifty top employers in the mid-west. Out of those fifty managers had to choose which departments would be surveyed. Out of all the company’s only 35 were chosen to be a part of the survey. These were picked based on how much of a variety the chosen which had to deal with technology, product and service. The business’s had different department and organization that ranged from 5 to 30 employees. 1200 surveys were passed out to more than 1000 employees. The different items that were surveyed were based on health care, finance, retail manufacturing and government.
The return rate of the surveys was at a low 42 percent. Out of those people who had taken the survey there was 217 males and 288 females that ranged from ages 24- 45. The survey was divided up into two different parts, which were the questions of nonverbal communication and demographic information. The questions were a range from a rate scale or multiple choice. Out of these results decoding was a high rate a long side with the importance of nonverbal communication. Through this survey scientist had ranked the importance of decoding and verbal/nonverbal communication. Facial expressions to be number one followed by voice level and tone. Coming in at third was the verbal content of feedback. 27 percent had said that verbal gave more accurate information than nonverbal. 79 percent had said they look for facial expressions in the eyes and mouth. They found it to be important to look at these certain areas. On the other had good decoders had said that nonverbal can be more accurate than the average decoder. The next thing that was looks at was how the business was with nonverbal/ verbal communication. 92 percent had come to an agreement that nonverbal was important or non-important.

Again this was based on a scale rating from 1 – 5. 94 percent had said they experienced negative emotion when their manages verbal and nonverbal channels were not met. 36 percent felt unconfutable while 33 percent felt unwanted and frustrated. The strengths I saw in this study was somewhat weak. They had supportive details on their subject but only did it on one part of the country. Different companies run differently and managers have different ways of running things as well. Sometimes they have to follow certain guidelines and restrictions on how to act. They don’t mean to be like that but they just have to follow the rules and not lose their jobs. Maybe they just come off mean to their employees so they won’t get stepped on or over run. You can’t just survey one part of the country to decide this is what you think on how things are run, you need to expand your research to other parts. Who know you could end up with totally different percent’s and how employees think of their employer.
Yes this is a good way of finding out how things are in the work place but it is not really that big. I do agree with what the researchers were trying to say, how nonverbal communication is a huge deal in the business world. They took survey’s and asked how employees felt around their workplace and their manager as well. Some of the research that came out of this had surprised me to be honest. Like I did not know that the importance of nonverbal communication was a big deal until now. It pretty much opened my eyes so now I know what to do in my workplace to act towards others. My insight toward this article was very informative it gave me a better idea on how nonverbal communication is in the business world. The way you act and present yourself rubs off on people and makes them feel unconfutable which rubs off of them to someone that creates a domino effect. In my opinion people should really take in consideration on how really nonverbal communication is important. Like how would you feel if you were presenting a presentation and all you saw was people rolling their eyes or just doing something else? Not good at all right. The research that was done for this was very informative. We just have to realize nonverbal communication is very important not only in the business world but everywhere else as well.
