In society today, everyone is worried they do not have enough time. Humans think they do not have enough time because they convince themselves so. Most of us humans waste our time away doing nothing, or nothing productive when we could be doing new exciting things, getting things done and accomplished, so that everything you ever wanted to do could be done. We don’t push ourselves, and most humans are lazy and time consuming. In the future it will all change because someone will realize things need to get done and people need to appreciate time more.
In Harlan Ellison’s “‘Repent, Harlequin! ‘ Said the Ticktockman” is a world that is controlled by the ticktockmman which has set strict schedules for everyone that they have no time to do what they want but only want the ticktockman wants them to do. If you are not on time, the ticktockman decides your fate. Expressing the idea that mankind constantly depends on order and punctuality, Ellison also reveals that chaos and disorder are bound to happen, perhaps necessary, even in a society so strictly dictated.
I think this is relating to the real world by putting emphasis on “abusing time” because most humans are lazy or do not use all their time wisely when they could always be doing something better or more productive with their time instead they chose to waist it. In the future when robots take over they try to change the ways of the humans so we use our time more productively and if we don’t, then they show us that if you don’t chose to use your time wisely and waist it, then you do not serve a purpose and do not need to live anymore.
The Essay on Don People Things Problems
this is a short story if you don't understand what i'm telling you, the point that i'm making is at the bottom. i know that many of you know me, some of you don't, but you all got an email from me before, or at least i think you have. one thing that i've learned in life that's been practically shoved down my throat (in a loving way) for the last 5 years or so has been the importance of friends. i ...
The government is being too strict in this short story. They only see the bad and not the good. They think that all humans are wasting time and it needs to be fixed. It is too drastic to have humans on schedules like especially that if they are late they should be killed. Humans need time to relax, and time to enjoy themselves without the government, and the ticktockman, completely running every aspect of life like what they need to do at what time. People don’t like being told what to do, especially every second of every day.
Maybe if the government took a different approach to this problem, they would get better results. We want to be ourselves and not “slaves” to the government. “And so it goes. And so it goes. And so it goes. And so it goes goes goes goes goes tick tock tick tock tick tock and one day we no longer let time serve us, we serve time and we are slaves of the schedule, worshipers of the sun’s passing, bound into a life predicated on restrictions because the system will not function if we don’t keep the schedule tight. ” ? Harlan Ellison, “Repent, Harlequin! ” Said the Ticktockman
One way the government could go about solving the “time wasting” solution is to motive people to get more done and rewarding the ones who do and punish the ones who don’t. In Harlan Ellison’s “‘Repent, Harlequin! ‘ Said the Ticktockman” they don’t reward, they only punish and the punishment is death. People need to be rewarded for doing well because without rewards there is no motivation. An example of a problem and solution like this is when you are at work. If you are hardworking and you show up on time and get your work done, than you are rewarded with a raise or a promotion.
If you do not do well at your job and use your time wisely than you will be fired. Another example is a school. If you are hardworking, study, and get good grades, than you can go to college and have a good career. But if you are lazy and do not do your work than you will fail your tests, get bad grades, and then it will be harder for you to get into college, which means it will be hard to find a good career. If the government took a better approach to the problem In Harlan Ellison’s “‘Repent, Harlequin! ‘ Said the Ticktockman”, they wouldn’t ruin people’s lives and they would probably make the town a better place.
The Essay on Government by the People
The population growth has caused concern for many Americans because of the terms of numbers and poverty that comes with this growth. It isn’t good to force someone to use their time wisely but to only suggest and hope they do realize that they should be doing more productive things with their time. The government would see more happiness and progress with rewarding and punishing instead of just punishing the people. When we are getting punished for things we don’t even want to do the world will become a very unhappy place because people won’t get to enjoy themselves anymore, and with work should come play. Without enjoying and relaxing everyone will become cranky and mad and it will ruin our world.
If the government’s goal is to make the world a better place than they should see that what they were doing wasn’t working and should have a better solution that way they are happy, and we are too. “Why let them order you about? Why let them tell you to hurry and scurry like ants or maggots? Take your time! Saunter a while! Enjoy the sunshine, enjoy the breeze, and let life carry you at your own pace! Don’t be slaves of time, it’s a helluva way to die, slowly, by degrees… down with the Ticktockman! ” ? Harlan Ellison, “Repent, Harlequin! ” Said the Ticktockman
