Nixon was elected as President in 1968. Reconciliation was the first goal set by President Richard M. Nixon. The Nation was divided, with disorder in the cities and with war overseas. This recorded evidence proved beyond a doubt that earlier existed that the President knew of the conspiracy and that he actually was supporting it. That was enough to bring down Nixons Presidency. Because of the tapes, Nixon was faced with what seemed almost definite impeachment and decided to resign.
