As I examined The People for the American Way website, I noticed three key elements that were consistent throughout the website. One, the lack of indicating the funding source for the website and the organization as a whole; two, the strong hidden underlying position; and three, the exceptional variety of opposing material, such as links to other websites. This website had much more information than I could process in a short amount of time. In my observation, I could not locate the source of funding for The People for the American Way, although its opinions are clearly left-wing oriented.
This gives me a sense of secrecy, which is not the organization’s intent, seeing that they are very outspoken about America’s freedoms. I also noticed a “twist” on their news stories. As much as they like to state that they are for the people, I had a hard time convincing myself that these articles were fact driven, but more opinion driven. They possess the morals and values of a “typical” liberalist. They even have a section on their website called “Right Wing Watch”, where they breakdown what the Republican party has done in the past week. They offer editorials and commentary on current events in which Republicans take a heavy participation in.
Some of these articles go as far as to label and criticize right-wing notions and beliefs. Most of the website is written in this fashion, making it difficult to read. Although there are many articles that appear to have a democratic underlying tone, the website adequately provides links to other resources that having opposing opinions. I found this very enlightening because most websites do not attempt to provide both sides to the coin.

This reflects the ability to accept that there is another view point, aside from The People for the American Way. They offer links to many right wing, conservative literature, such as links to Focus on the Family, the Christian Coalition, the American Conservative Union, and the American Family Association.
