drunk driving is when someone drinks a beverage with alcohol in it and they get behind the wheel to drive a motorized vehicle. A 16 year old driving drunk is the same as a 35 year old driving drunk. The only difference is that the 16 year old is underage and is breaking the law by not being at legal age. Alcohol is illegal to individuals who are under the age of 21. All 50 states have a law against drinking under 21 because individuals younger than that will misuse the privilege. When teenagers drive drunk they are at high risk into getting into collisions, skipping important signs, and possibly hitting pedestrians. 60% of all deaths for teens are from car accidents involving alcohol. Every 15 minutes a teen dies due to drunk driving. According to statistics from the Center for Disease Control on teen car accidents, 2650 teens between the ages 16 and 19 were killed in car accidents in 2011.
Organizations helping to solve the problem:
Many organizations want to help prevent drunk driving in teens and adults. Some of the organizations are IDDPA, NCADD, and MADD. IDDPA stands for International Drunk Driving Prevention Association. The IDDPA was made to prevent drinking and driving. They are also there to assist victims in drunk driving accidents and to support the development of technology to prevent drinking and driving. NCADD is another organization and it stands for National Commission against Drunk Driving. The NCADD want to help reduce impaired driving and its terrible consequences. They plan on making that happen by coming together with public and private organizations. The last organization I found was MADD or better known as Mothers against Drunk Driving. Their organization is devoted to helping victims of drunk driving.
