When I was a little girl, I always talked about becoming a veterinarian. I have always had a really strong passion for helping animals. I already knew just about everything that I assume everyone else knew about veterinarians and what they do, and that is to help animals. I knew that they performed checkups on animals and that they help figure out the problem with sick animals and how to treat that problem. A lot of people know that I want to be a veterinarian so they ask questions on what I think about things such as, “Is Parvo really bad for my dog?” I like to act like I know what I am talking about but the truth is, most of the time I really have no clue.
I don’t know all of what is entailed in being a veterinarian. I figure that if I want to become a veterinarian in the future, I should know more than I do now before I decide that this is really what I want to do with my life. Through my research I hope to learn more about being a veterinarian, which would answer my research question: What are the different types of careers in veterinary medicine and which one do I want to pursue as my future career?

Another book that I found to be very helpful was called Opportunities in Animal and Pet Care Careers. This book gave me information about different fields of veterinary medicine as well. In addition, this book gave me information about support positions in a veterinary office. A similar book I found was called Veterinarian. It gave me lots of helpful information such as the things that veterinarians have to do and how long you have to go to school to become a veterinarian.
The book research took me about 4 hours to complete. One difficulty I found on my research journey was that I found only 3 helpful books and that a lot of books I found had not helpful information at all. Then I realized I had only 3 sources, so I turned to the Internet.
I found many helpful websites. I went to the Google search engine and typed in Veterinarians. One of the websites that I chose was the WOIS website. There was a great deal of information that was very helpful. One thing I liked about the website was that it was well organized and it was easy to find what I needed. I also went to the Occupational Outlook Handbook website and also found a lot of helpful information. I didn’t have any difficulties researching on the Internet. I found a great deal of information in my research and because of that I now know that, there are many different careers in veterinary medicine that I can pursue. What I Learned/The Search Results
There are many different fields in veterinary medicine. The Term Paper on Should Animals Be Used For Research Purposes
Should animals be used for scientific research and experimentation? From ancient times, humans have relied on animals for their survival either as food (sheep, cow) or for competition (horses) and companionship (dogs). As humans became more familiar to their environment, they then also started utilizing animals for attainment of knowledge dating back to the days of the great physician Galen (129- ...
It is no wonder why the percentage of small animal veterinarians is significantly higher. The small animal veterinarians work mostly on dogs, cats, and other companion animals. They also work on small exotic animals like birds, guinea pigs, hamsters, and reptiles. There are also large animal veterinarians. They work on farm animals such as cows, sheep, swine, llamas, horses and ponies. Swine veterinarians are among the highest paid practitioners in the business (Ermitage 17)
Another type of veterinarian is a zoo veterinarian. They also qualify as a large animal veterinarian. They work to keep all the unusual animals healthy. They also help wildlife biologists figure out how to keep threatened or endangered species alive. Zoo veterinarians are very similar to exotic animal veterinarians. They also care for rare animals such as macaws, monkeys, iguanas, ferrets, potbellied pigs and all kinds of other animals. There is one kind of veterinarian that I had no clue what they did or that they even existed.
Holistic veterinarians are a very different type of veterinarian. “Whether for people or animals, holistic veterinarians look at a patient’s health and lifestyle as a whole instead of treating each symptom separately” (Maze 11).
I think it is really cool that a veterinarian can use human treatments on animals and vice versa. Another type of veterinarian is a research veterinarian. “Research Veterinarians are actively involved in the effort to find medicines to fight AIDS and other human diseases humans get. They are also working on a cure for leukemia. They have a treatment for leukemia for cats and they are working to develop it.
