White Mans Burden Imperialism was inevitable with the growth of industry. In need of materials, countries would take control of other lands. Ethno-centrism became a part of the European state of mind. Europeans felt driven to impose their beliefs and ideas on the conquered territories and to exploitate them. Rudyard Kipling, who was very much against this movement, deemed this the White Mans Burden. India was very negatively affected by Great Britain. The White Mans Burden by Rudyard Kipling was published in 1899 in McClures Magazine.
This poem was very important during that period of the worlds history. It also caused numerous debates about imperialism of America. The Philippine-American War started two days after the Senate had signed the treaty, which was ending the Spanish-American War. Imperialists in the United States had adopted the phrase white mans burden, which was a euphemism for imperialism in order to approve such kind of a policy as noble enterprise. Anti-imperialists were interested in the creation of such a poems, which greatly influenced tendencies towards gaining freedom for the population of colonies. They quickly came up with numerous versions of this poem in order to bring public attention towards the new situation in Philippines. Anti-imperialists stated that new warfare would bring a number of problems and insisted that the origins for this came from greed for military power and commercial markets, with ongoing racial and gender inequality at home, and also the special “burden” of imperialism to the working people of the United States.
The Essay on Form Of Association State Aristotle Man
The Politics by Aristotle contains two extremely important ideas concerning the community, Aristotle felt that the state is not only a community, but that it is the highest of all communities. The Great Britains policy of imperialism had been followed by the increase of opponents of Great Britain throughout the world. It actually imposed upon people a heavy burden of debt and taxation. Besides, it had raised the question of the situation in colonies, while many problems that existed at home were forgotten. Great Britain was put in position, when it could soon no longer exist as empire. Besides, this outbreak of movement towards freedom in colonies greatly endangered Britains commerce. The world was hostile to imperialist countries. For this reason, the poem of Rudyard Kipling even increased the negative tension that was already present in colonies.
Mr. Kiplings poem in some ways can be related as the interpretation of appeal to the United States to join Great Britain in carrying her burden. States had started to do the same things that Great Britain was doing for couple centuries and seemed to forgot how once they were fighting for cultural and economic independence from England. However, many Americans supported the doctrine that it is the white mans duty to force his civilization upon peoples, who feel quite comfortable under a higher-class civilization. Kiplings poem states: Take up the White Man’s burdenin patience to abide, to veil the threat of terror and check the show of pride; by open speech and simple, an hundred times made plain, to seek another’s profit (Kipling, Rudyard. “The White Man’s Burden.”) These words state that the population of colonies should not be so passive in obtaining their rights. People should not be servants for the foreigners, while imperialists are simply getting profits from all this without paying attention towards the problems of the colony.
Besides, white men have cultural influence. In other words, imperialists were exploitating whole countries and millions of people, while tyrannizing them. However, the age of imperialism was constantly passing away, but the problem was not forgotten and was still quite important even several years later. In 1901 after the warfare in Philippines Mark Twain has said: “The White Man’s Burden has been sung. Who will sing the Brown Man’s?” Rudyard Kipling poem is anti-imperialistic. The reason for him to write such a poem was that he was concerned about the situation, when strong and developed nations were simply violating the culture and interests of other less developed countries, while they had enormous profit from these colonies.

She compares this English lifestyle to ...
It was hard for Kipling to see how poor were the colonies and how rich was Great Britain. Many people knew and thought that this situation was not fair, but not too many actually talked about it. Kipling made a pure statement according to this issue and wanted to change this situation by saying: Take up the White Man’s burden! which clearly explains the purpose of the poem..
