In today’s society there are many people that are now trying to pursue a college degree. Most jobs now require some type of degree in order to have a good position and good pay. The reason why I decided to pursue a college degree was to further my education and to help towards my goals in life. It has always been my dream to own my own business once I get out of the Military. I also have a dream to become the first Female Sergeant Major of the Army. With these two goals and dreams you have to have some type of degree to get ahead in life. Since I could remember, I’ve always wanted to own my own bakery. I have always had a passion for baking and designing cakes. So I first started my degree in Business Administration back in 2004. With me being in the Military it has slowed down my progress on getting that type of degree. So in 2012, I decided to change my major. I found a program that was tailored to me within the military and could help me out in the civilian sector.
In 2013, I finally received my degree but it was in Supply Chain Management, with me being in the MOS of Supply in the Army I felt like this would help me out with owning my business. After I received that degree once again I changed my major. This time it was to be a Sociology Major. In my mind I had no clue as to what I was getting myself into, but I knew that it would help with my goal in the Army. I am really not a people person; I like to stay to myself. I am very intrigued about learning of all the different cultures and their beliefs I just never decided to learn about them until now. So I knew with going into this major that it would help me out with dealing with people on all types of levels. Since I started with college, I learned that I have several learning styles. To me I feel like I am a hands-on person an active listener, and a visual learner. I can get things done by looking at it once and then completing the task without someone having to explain it to me more than once.

As far as active listening, I retain information better if I can listen to it. When I am reading I like to read aloud so I can hear what I am reading and try to understand it better. When it comes to visualization learning, I like to look at something and try to figure out the solution without reading all the details. I took two questionnaires Index of Learning Styles Questionnaire by Felder & Soloman and The Center for New Discoveries in Learning quiz and I agree with both of those questionnaires.
Both the quiz and questionnaire had questions that fit me perfectly and the end result gave me a clearer percentage of which one of my learning styles I use more often. In conclusion, college may not be for everyone, but for me it is needed for me to make it closer to my dream and goals. While in college, I have learned that everyone has different learning styles that may change throughout the different courses that we may take. We just have to get used to the ones that we are comfortable with to continue to help us succeeded and tailor the ones that we are not used to, to help us with our learning styles.
