When I was younger, my father always said that I would me an excellent lawyer. According to him I could argue on anything, even if I knew very well that I was wrong. I always knew-or rather thought- that I could convince them I was right. The pizzazz in which television portrayed the courtroom appealed to me. That was what I always pictured myself doing in the future. I later found out television did make law seem much more glamorous than it actually is.
Law still grabbed my attention however, and becoming a lawyer still seemed like a goal I would love to achieve but never would. My high school years are drawing to a close and my original goal remains. I want more than ever to go through law school and practice law. Politics interest me more than ever. I am anxiously anticipating my eighteenth birthday for no other reason than to have the right to vote in the upcoming presidential election. I want to make an impact on society as a whole, but most of all on the individual person.
As your average citizen I feel very distant from all politicians and office holding persons. I do not wish that for myself. I love to interact with people and hear what they have to say. I feel that everyone’s ideas are important. After all, these officials are here to serve the people, not to entertain their own fancies and ideas. After completing law school and practicing for a few years, I hope to eventually run for office.

My plans are to start small and progress from there depending on my success. I would like to succeed and push further in each office or position I enter. Whether or not I will succeed depends on many things, but most of all it depends on me. I am applying to participate in the Blount Undergraduate Initiative at the University of Alabama. I hope to be accepted since I feel that the skills you develop in this program would be beneficial in order to follow the dreams and goals I have set for myself. The debate, public speaking skills, and most importantly the thinking skills you develop could aid me in many ways.
I realize an education is the first step towards success and I hope that education could come from the University of Alabama.
