Women in Television, and what can be said. Skinny, blond, ditzy, annoying, un-educated, easy, and considered a typical women. If you ” re a women and you hear these words, does it make you think of who you are, or your mother or sisters? I think not… but I do think about the people I see on television and in magazines or in movies. What I want to know is who is writing the scripts for some of the television shows that I watch. I would like to hope that it’s not women putting these stereotypes on their fellow “sisters.” Television is so different today in so many ways than what it was when it first started to blossom.
“I love Lucy”, what is that show about? A hard working husband and a “House” wife that is often puzzled in situations and doesn’t know how to solve them. “Leave it to Beaver”, “My Three Sons”, and so on… all these families with a father / husband who goes off to work as the wife stays home to clean. Now true we don’t have the women staying home in shows these days, but we have non-realistic women in my opinion. Women who are so skinny that if makes you feel as if there is something wrong with the way you look. Friends one of my personal favorite t.
v. Shows I think portrays women in a way that society typically views women today. Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) to me plays the closest to role to what women are today. She is business driven, a good personality, strongly voiced, and a soon to be mother. The thing about Aniston’s character is that she is a perfect women… she is very skinny, perfect if I may say so, and is the way I think America says is the “ideal” way for a female to be today.
The Essay on Desires In Advertising Women Truth Today
The following advertisements promote new desires and new cultural mythologies towards our society. The older desires are still evident because they are used in nature differently, but now new desires are emerging. These new desires include the power and freedom of women, a new rugged view of sex and sexuality, extreme risk, and strangely enough truth has been a new evident trend. The largest new ...
Monica “Bing” (Courteney Cox Arquette) plays somewhat of a “bitchy Character” and is tends to be very bossy and sneaky. Cox seems to be to also be very much so like Aniston’s character in the sense of physical perfection. Phoebe Buffy (Lisa Kudrow) plays absolutely the most stereotypical female. She is a blond who doesn’t understand anything…
but it’s a good laugh right? It seems to me that America finds it funny when we watch these blond women on t. v, the way they are portrayed makes it seem as though that’s the way all women of that “kind” are. A friend, a very highly rated show, seems to be doing something right… and I can guaranty you that a lot of the viewers are women. I watch friends… but there are times that it just can’t keep it on that channel due to the effect of stomach illness it has on me when Monica won’t shut up and is ridiculously annoying.
Will & Grace. Very, very funny show… is it because of the shallow (anorexic appearing) self-centered lady, or is it because of the fouled mouth drunk who married rich? Ally McBeal, a women who wins court cases because of sexual appeal or because of un-thought tactics. Ally also a very thin woman, some say sickly, but it seems at though all the women I have mentioned with the exception of the character Karen (who is perfectly healthy looking) seems to be extremely skinny… is that what the women today are supposed to be? Overly skinny, cigarette smoking, sexy, blond / brunette colored hair, and man satisfying. As much as I would like to say that these types of characters shouldn’t be allowed due to the effect of demands that it has not only on young women today but all women, I think that’s to much to ask for.
Why? Because we (the women they are stereotyping and making fun of) are the ones supporting them. We tune in every night across the country and talk about with are girl friends. Therefore, until we are truly honestly offended by what we see, in the aspect of making sure our opinions are heard, then I don’t think it’s going to changes. But then again why should it if we don’t say anything?
