There are times that I could be pulled over by the police just for driving in the wrong neighborhood. And I know there are some in this class that can relate to that. For example, when that girl told that story of her being pulled over on Halloween night. The police wouldn’t let her get home until she showed them the costume she was wearing. In my mind I was saying to myself, “wow this problem effects white people too.” Cause the typical situation would be the police, for the tone of their skin, stopping an African American or Hispanic.
This girl found sexism in the same people that were hired to protect and serve her. That helped me understand that women face sexism everywhere they go. Men and women are extremely competitive with occupations, and most men, feel superior then women. Sometimes women may not notice it, but they are the targets of sexual harassment. Sexism dates back to the stone ages, men where the hunters, woman were to take care of the family. Us Men know the statistics, they show that we are more favorable and most of us want to keep it that way.
If this is true, then how do women and men share the world together without war between each other? I think it is because we need each other to survive. I am not a sexist myself, but you can clearly see the way life is. A lot of women choose not to see the statistics or they do not care and accept that men are more successful than women are. For the women who don’t accept this, there is a long struggle ahead.
