Because of the economic turmoil in Europe, none of the nations could productively manufacture massive amounts of Weapons. While the European nations were occupied with warfare, the Americans were mass-producing enormous amounts of weapons. While trading to both sides occurred, the Allied forces purchased more of the American manufactured goods. The prices of nearly all goods were rising in this time. This is known as inflation. The general rise of prices causes the financial structure of the nations to become weakened, and the power of its national currency decreases.
This inflation and the weaker European economy were giving massive amounts of their wealth to the Americans who were mass-producing the weapons for the front line warfare. During the wartime crisis, all socio-economic classes were deemed equal and not one was more valuable than the other. While the men of the family were on the front lines fighting the battles themselves, there were massive gaps in labor and work in Europe. Because many of the women did not fight, they stayed at home and worked in the factories, or in the jobs the men had left behind. The women demanded better rights and more equality between genders.

Few countries granted their women suffrage and the ability to vote during and after the war. Due to massive amounts of deaths on the front lines, the armies were constantly in need of new troops. The majority of the Men in the countries involved were deployed or drafted at some point during the war. This meant that many men were not home for their families.

Erich Maria Remarque depicts the loss of innocence of teenagers in the war in his book “All Quiet on the Western Front. ” The toll of World war one was devastating on all nations. The economy of America grew, and Europe’s economies inflated. Women gained rights, and millions of young men died. The treaty of Versailles helped officially end the conflict, while simultaneously put crushing amounts of debt on German and Austria-Hungary.
