Given the circumstances that we, as humans, have created in this world, it is no wonder that HipHop, a once pure and expressive artform, has taken the turn it has. With this truth, we must also understand that within all things manifested as destructive lies a devine purpose. In essence, HipHop in its current state is now serving its intended purpose. Without HipHop being were it is now, those of us affected by it would not have become enlightened concerning many things. The most obvious being that the material world (that of excess money, cars, sex and ego motivated power) is not a world we want to strive to support and be a part of. We are at a constant battle with the obscene and, often, gross images portrayed within this artform.
Recently, there has been an increase in resistance against such images. This is a good thing. We are now coming to terms with the fact that the path to happiness that has been layed out for us (by a sick and twisted society) will no longer sufic e. With the accumulation of wealth, we are still seeing our communities succumb to self proclaimed oppression. With all the luxuries this world has to offer we are still unhappy.
HipHop was once view as the medium that would spread the message of Truth and Love. It was supposed to be Gods form of communication to all oppressed and marginalized societies. If we can just take the time to listen to what HipHop is saying about us, about our communities, about our world then we can begin to deal with the source of our brokenness. This is a necessary and crucial time in HipHop, and in history.
... whole, especially the adult world where everyone is "phony" and only concerned with material things. He finds it ... from young people for growing up in a world with "the phonies." Holden also has issues ... getting thrown out of school Holden replies by saying things that he thought Mr. Spencer wanted to hear ... being sixteen years old especially since there are things going on with his body that he does ...
It is a time for us to look at our issues and begin to deal with them in a productive and resourceful manner. This does not mean laying blame, as we have all contributed to the prostitution of HipHop. This means examining the images that have become a reflection of our society, and, on a personal level, our mind states. So what is the next step? It is quite obvious.
