Although college life is portrayed to many as one big party, I recently have found that this accusation is unrealistic. The truth is, college is an overwhelming and intimidating experience. Preconceived notions of how college really works, ultimately ruins the reality of college life. The first falsity is about Sorority and Fraternity life. Being in a Fraternity or Sorority is not depicted honestly. In college, most people picture typical Fraternity and Sorority parties. However, Sorority and Fraternity work is geared more towards community service rather than parties.
All Fraternities and Sororities are required to have a philanthropy that is well chartered. Academics in college are focused on far more than social events. Regularly, a student is assigned four to eight hours of homework daily. Often, many students do not have time to even think about partying. Most of a college students time is spent in the library or on the computer. Another tribulation is the professors expectations. Professors demand a lot more out of a student in college.
After all, many forget that the ultimate reason for college is for an education. Housing in college is characterized as a luxurious apartment with extravagant kitchens and bathrooms. The reality is, at most Universities the room shared is hardly big enough for one person, let alone two people. The dormitory bathrooms are best described as gruesome and inconvenient. Frequently, a person may wake up to no shower because the others are already in use. The drains are usually clogged with hair and, the mildew and soap scum on the wall add a nice touch to the jail like decor. Despite the gruesome conditions in the dorm, the dorms do have exciting aspects also.
