Many people would think of pollution, gang violence, and/or preparing for disasters when they think of community safety. However, I am more concerned with our community members enhancing themselves through education. I feel that we need to start teaching children the importance of education when they are at a young age so that they would grow up understanding the value of being able to go to school. As for myself, even at a young age, academics has always been a top priority in my life. Coming from a financially disadvantaged background and struggling with the loss of a mother, I realized at a very young age that I needed to pursue a high education if I were to be the one in my family to bring them honor. Because of my strong feelings on this matter, I have taken action in encouraging people to continue learning. People would be able to make wiser decisions because education instills knowledge in them.
One of the events that I have engaged my time in is the Diamond Elementary Conference. I had the opportunity to teach the Planning/Goal Setting Workshop. I gave the children information regarding their future and encouraged them to start developing the right habits that would make them successful in their schoolwork. It was an amazing experience as I had the chance to interact with so many talented young kids. Also, I told the children how beneficial education could be to them. I told them that they had such promising futures ahead of them and to not let that go to waste. I was very content that day as I got the chance to make a difference in some of their lives. I am so thankful that I was given the opportunity to lead our younger generation into the right direction.

I also take action to promote education through the continual encouragement I give to my peers. Sometimes my classmates feel that they would not make it to college because of financial needs or whatever their circumstances may be. I respond with their doubt by telling them about myself. I tell them that my dream is to attend UC Berkeley and despite my struggles, by working hard, I know I will be able to get there. Also, I try to make my peers aware that the have the power to change the future. If they challenge themselves to grasp onto every opportunity they get to learn, I tell them that they will surely become productive members of society by contributing their knowledge. I try to encourage my friends to always think positive about themselves and to have faith in their future. I feel that we, as students, have the potential to change the image of our community through the decisions that we make because, ultimately, our decisions reflect on the kinds of people that we are.
The last, but definitely not least of my commitment to encouraging education is to set an example through demonstrating my own academic accomplishments. I continue to work diligently in school in order to make sure I am fulfilled with my accomplishments for each and every day, whether it be completing homework or volunteering my time to the community. I strongly feel that a person needs to reach their point of contentment. To do this, they need to feel proud of who and what they stand for. I try to maintain my academic accomplishments in order to set an example for others around me. Through striving for the very best, I feel that I am pushing myself to success. As a result, I hope that others may be inspired to do the same. I always make sure that I am happy with who I am.
I feel that education can get people to very high places. In fact, it is necessary to have education if you plan to survive in today’s society. More importantly though, education enables people to make better decisions in their lives. This will eventually help the safety of our community because it would lead individuals into a good life.
