In psychology, naturalistic observation has been used in many different studies, some includes mother infant interactions, classroom behaviors children in different types of play and social norms in public settings. This research will is to observe one child’s attentive towards her little sister when left alone in a room. This observation will be recorded. Specifically, it involves the observation of a young girl name Shermeka and she is seven years ok. Her behavior was observed in an unobtrusive manner.
The aim of this experiment is to evaluate the amount of attentiveness Shermeka shows to her sister to in a time need such as doing homework, helping each other and while playing. The attentive behavior of children Naturalistic observation involves recording a subject’s occurring behavior while they are in their natural environment Goodwin, C. J. (2004).
This method of observation will allow you to study the subject and form an outline, hypotheses and further within study, a conclusion. Should young children be attentive?

She has dark brown eyes and loves the color pink. I came to this assumption because on the day observed, she has a pink book bag, a pink coat and was carrying a pink Barbie umbrella.
She was wearing her school uniform and attends chartered school. Her hair was combed in two pig tails and length wise its past her shoulder, her weight is unknown. Shermeka was chosen for this observation because she is picked up every day after school and baby sat by my younger sibling, Utopia Baker. Permission was given to observe Shermeka with the use of video by her mother. There is no relation to the subject, she is one of my mother’s tenants. Shemeka speaks well and sometimes within the two day observation, her conversations were a little too grown for her age.

Skemeka seems not to like her own age group, she insists to socialize with old adolescence. My sibling is fifteen years old and Shermeka would rather engage in a conversation with her, than pay attention to her sibling. She seems to like when the attention is on her and doesn’t like to share her time. Materials The material used in this observation was an IPad, it would place in the living room area above the television set. After sitting this equipment up, it was left to record Shermeka’s actions for thirty minutes. Procedure This observation was completed over a two day session.
Day 1: First I set up the equipment Tuesday at 4:25 pm because I knew the time my sister would return from picking up Shermeka. Once they entered the house I pressed record on my IPad. Shermeka went into the living room area of the house, took of her coat and book bag and proceeded to start her homework. The doorbell rang 15 minutes later so I knew her little sister had arrived. Once they both ate their snacks, they were left unattended. Shermeka completely ignored for little sister, and when she asked her for some water, Shermeka’s reply was “leave me alone, don’t talk to me”.
She later asked for her help again when needing assistance to use the bathroom and it was denied. She stated leave me alone Shenese and pee in your pull-ups. She went on playing, having conversations with herself and calling my younger sister to assist her needs. Day 2: The IPad was set up around the same time and left in the same place. This was Wednesday at 4:25 pm. Shermeka arrived home with so many stories to tell. She went into the living room space and began her homework. As soon as the doorbell rang and her little sister came through the door, Shermeka’s attitude changed.
She kept walking away from her little sister and starting saying; leave me alone, before her sibling even said hi. My younger sister joined them in the living area for this taping and Shermeka wanted nothing for than conversation. She started speaking about school, boys who like her and telling dreams of being old and what she will have when she is grown. Examples she will have two phones, three IPad and calling brands that she will own. When her sister got involved in the conversation however Shermeka told her to move, get away and you’re too young.

Results A child’s position in the family is also significant. Every child is born into a different family. For instance when the oldest child is born, parents may be struggling financially. When the second child arrives the family is more stable and experienced in child rearing. The youngest child has many people at her beck and call!
There are generalized traits that oldest, middle and youngest children exhibit and being familiar with them can help parents understand their children’s behavior. Although Shermeka was not attentive in any way to the needs of her sibling, the issue she has with her can be rooted back from the day she was born. Whether feeling jealous or just in need of more attention. Her sibling needs were not met. So the question was asked, should children be attentive? I believe they should, doesn’t matter the age. A person should learn to give care and attentions to everyone, not to choose who deserve it and who doesn’t.
