Culture has effected our lives in one way or another, and if we like it or not. Think about it, it’s a chance you wouldn’t have the same religion, the same rules, the same thoughts, the same idea to what’s right or wrong, etc.
Many family patterns that my family participates in are: prayer, dining together, discussing world events, and personal opinions/beliefs. Our family is very busy; it is seldom when both my parents’ are home before 6 PM. My family is very open to cultural diversity. My grandparents and great-grandparents are not as diverse, they can be racist at times and I don’t blame them because they were born and raised that way. If you were raised in an old fashioned way you will be old fashioned in your future. My family hikes, goes to movies, camps, helps the community, goes to concerts, supports my siblings extra curricular activities. Some of clubs were in are: drama club, music club, hiking clubs, theater production, and homework club. Some of the miscellaneous things we do are football, basketball, baseball, skateboarding, snowboarding, track, swimming, wrestling , boxing, play guitar, play cello, computer, and telephone.
My family’s rules are strict; my step dad’s father was in the military. There is a precise bedtime, my friends have to meet my parents before I come over to their house or spend the night, we must walk the dogs every day, even homework has to be checked. Also, my parents need to know where we are at all times, we need to do an after school activity, run a mile 3 times a week, and no cursing. Some more are no F’s, no talking back, hair not be in too long, no more than 2 friends over at a time, no more than 2 people/guests spending the night. The traditions we have in this family are Dim Sun (restaurant) every Christmas for Christmas dinner, Christmas breakfast at home, and Christmas Eve at step-grandparents house.
The Essay on Santa Claus Christmas Time Season
Calvin Coolidge, the thirtieth president, once said, "Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas." If a pre-schooler was asked what Christmas is, he or she would simply respond with Santa Claus, but if an adult was asked the same question, the answer would vary from a time to give to ...
Thanksgiving at the Tacoma house, and Easter egg hunt at the house in Tacoma with Easter dinner. We go to Ohio every summer, and go to Rogues Hollow when we’re in Ohio. My grandparents (mother’s side) come visit every spring and we hike with our step-dad every Sunday. For our food traditions, it is too much to put this on paper; but we usually have keen (seaweed) and rice for dinner every night, a lot of Italian/Asian mixture food. Some of Italian food on my moms’ side is; pasta, fish, egg plant, zucchini, and Italian bread. Some Asian food my family eats are Kim chi, bulgogi, kalbi, teriyaki, sushi, tempura, dim sun, mongolian beef, sweet & sour pork, spring rolls, egg roll, bubble tea, and phò.
My family tries to view situations from a third person perspective. And from their “analysis” they determine what they think is right or wrong. Sometimes they don’t view it from a third person perspective, according to how they were raised to think.
My family is not bilingual, with the exception of my step-dad and his parents. They are bilingual because my step-grandpa was in the military and had to move place to place. They have lived in Korea, Japan, all across the United States, France, Germany, Vietnam, Mexico, and even Panama. So they had to adapt to the language and learn it, even though most of they have forgotten by now. But language affects my family everyday by us communicating. It helps us with everything. If we did not learn to speak a language we would still be living in the Stone Age. Think about it, we would not have any form of social organization, no politics to form any government, no customs, no traditions, no art, no literature, no religion, or even faith. Take this as an example, there would be no religion because no one could spread the word of that particular religion because no one can communicate.
Music my family listens to are 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and today rock & roll. Also blues is a favorite My family also listens to the old country like Johnny Cash, Willy Nelson, and Chris Christopherson. My family listens to old jazz like Tony Bennett & Dean Martin. Some of my family listens to rap, screamo, metal, punk, techno, reggae, and thrash. My family is pretty open to music except when it has bad messages, words, etc.
The Essay on Religion and Belief within Life of Pi
Throughout the novel Life of Pi the reader is faced with many recurring symbols and motifs to enhance the themes of religion and belief within the novel. It is most evident when analysing the main character Pi. Religion is a major part of my family, my whole family on my moms side is Catholic with the exception of me. My whole family on my step-dads side is either Christian or Buddhist with the exception of me. I am atheist with many personal beliefs from different religions. I believe in karma from Buddhism. I believe in three-fold law. I believe in a place were everyone goes when they die no matter how bad they were in their life. Religion has affected my life in many ways especially since I am the only one in my whole family that is an Atheist. I respect my family’s religion by praying when they do, even though I do not believe in Christianity/Catholic religion.
Writing this essay has made me realize how much culture has affected my life, truthfully. I know my family life, patterns, religion, culture, rules, thoughts on what’s right or wrong, etc. would all be different.
