Since I was young, I have a great wish to become a fully qualified Civil Engineer. Because of my hard work in High School examination, I was accepted to study Diploma in Engineering up to Bachelor in Engineering programme and achieved my Bachelor Degree in Engineering. After five years studies at University, my desire to command projects from drawings and numbers on a sheet of paper to physical structures has been present. I joined the Government service at Ministry of Construction under the department of long span bridge construction.
As it is my first construction project, I fully utilized the theories from my class to the real world and also the concept of Project Management. I digged the bored pile and cast with full strength concrete and produced pre-stress concrete elements and placed in the right place. I was familiar with National University of Singapore (NUS), since in my student life and have a great wish to study in NUS for my further studies. But unexpected misfortune came in final year and my dreams were collapsed. Among them, the lost of my father made me painful and depressed.
I always believe in the saying, “If there is a will, there is a way” and I happened to come to Singapore and look for a job. I could not be so choosy though I wanted to get a career in design field. I still needed monthly income for my living and, luckily I got a chance to work at Oil and gas Industry as a site Engineer. Hence, I am familiar with precast concrete technology and high technology of precast concrete panel installation and as well as steel structural (pipe rack) installation. And one more advantage is my communication skill has been gradually improved and the social network becomes wider as my colleagues at work come from various countries.

I have been deeply impressed in Singapore Structural Steel Design and concepts those we can see easily in public, something like, MRT station, newly constructed Iconic bridge. My impression for SSSS is more and more interesting when I attended the Structural Steel Engineering Course. Although it is a short course, it has fascinated me since I took Prof. Liew class. Now my saving is good enough to study and I would like to enrol for Master of Science (Civil Engineering) programme in NUS. In this program, I hope to draw on my structural analysis and study more advance concepts. I also come to realize, however I may have experience and continuous learning in short courses, I still need to learn more. If only continuous studies in MSc (Civil Engineering) programme, then I may be able to widen the scope of knowledge. After completing MSc (Civil Engineering) programme, I would like to work for Singapore Structural Steel Society. My long-term goals are to return to my country and found my own engineering consulting firm there. My ambition to become a fully qualified Civil Engineer can only be fulfilled in your decision of accepting me to MSc (Civil Engineering) programme in NUS.
In conclusion, I have a wish to survive in this professional field after completing the MSc (Civil Engineering) programme in NUS. To fulfil my wish, I still need to pass through a number of steps successfully but I strongly believe that this MSc (Civil Engineering) programme of NUS would certainly be helpful to achieve my goals in life.
