The importance of hard work and dedication is the trait that has been passed down from my father’s father to mine. It served as a defining factor of our lives. Without it, we can never attain what we envision or make our dreams a possibility. It is what drives and motivates us to create greater opportunities in the things that we do. Given such impact in my life, I believe that these are the traits that I cherish the most. Coming from a Chinese family, I was taught values and ideals that are distinct in our culture.
It revolves around the idea of respect and willingness to follow traditions that shape our personality. Due to this, my father has been instrumental in shaping what we all are. Though we were considered well off compared to my counterparts, I grew up living a simple life. There were limited luxuries in our home. At first, I was wondering why this was the case, but now I fully understand the rationale of my father. Similarly, my father has been very frank about the way we handle our finances.
He mentions that we must be very frugal and save for the hard times. We must constantly be aware of our decisions especially on spending. Though I can attest that my father looked at how we splurge, he was never short of providing us with the basic necessities in life. My father’s values and ideals were very helpful in making me adjust better to the environment and instilled in me the notion that everything has it’s fair worth given a particular choice. It is a choice that I consider to be vital in the development of what I am right now. My early exposure to the harsh realities of life also has given me the capability to adjust and combat every challenge given to me.
