Strain or pressure, or as we call Stress can lead to many roads in a persons life. In the movie Dead Poets Society there were many kinds of stress that I observed many dealing with Parents, some with school, and others with their piers. I have noticed some similarities between the stress they went through and that in my life. In the movie Dead Poets Society, the kids went through many types of stress not only as a child of a parent, but also as a student, and a companion. The kids parents had a lot of control over their kids. The discipline that they had to go through was ridiculous.
They couldnt make their decisions freely. In the beginning of the Movie, all the parents were comparing their children to their siblings, and saying stuff like I want the best out of you, just like your brother did when he went to this school. An example of the stress that one of the kids went through was not being able to be in a play that his father didnt want him to be in. He felt very pressured, but still went with it, due to the fact that he had a gift, and it was something he liked to do. As a student they went through a lot of stress as well. Studying and doing homework every day put enough stress as it was on them.
There were very strict rules and regulations that they had to obi by in the school. Most of the Teacher expected a lot out of these kids as far as grades went. One of the punishments was being hit with a wooden mallet if they didnt live up to the correct standards. This alone put too much stress on these poor children. Besides all this stress, the students put a little pressure on each other as well. Trying to convince kids to do something they didnt want to do. This pier pressure just added stress to their everyday lives.
Homework Stress School Parents Students
A University of Michigan study last year found homework increasing overall from 1981 to 1997, with the biggest increase falling on students aged 6 to 8, whose homework load tripled. Piscataway is one of many school districts to ban or severely limit homework across the country. The school board in this district of about 7, 000 students limited it on weeknights, from 30 minutes in elementary school ...
Presently, in my life right now, the level of stress that I have comes in waves. Not only from work and school do I receive pressure, but from home; which is suppose to be the one place I can unwind and breathe. At school the atmosphere is fast pace and assignments have to be turned in on time or your grade will pay. The work load professors give is hard to manage when you have four other teachers who give the same amount for their courses, but its not the teachers fault cause the world cant change to follow each students busy schedule. At home I have a lot of stress as well. My parents expect me to do the best I can do, and to them my best is all As and Bs.
I have chores just like everyone else in the world, and those have to get done or else. And last but not least, is Work. In order for me to have a life, I have to work to make money. I work at least 27 hours a week, and that is a short one. And finding time around that for family, and school is hard. My life, and that of the boys in the movie Dead Poets Society both have stress in them, some of which is similar types of stress. As far as school goes, the teachers both give stress with home work and all, but I dont have the discipline problem that they have.
My school doesnt have the high expectations for the students like their school. When the Parents come into it, I have wonderful parents compared to theirs. I make most of my own decisions, not my parents. My parents would have no problem with me being in a play if I wanted to be. I think the most similar type of stress we both go through is that of our piers. I am pressured into going out at night when I have homework or something of more importance to do, just like the kids in the movie.
Unknowingly, this is a type of stress. There are many types of stress in my life that compared to that of the kids life in the movie Dead Poets Society. School, parents, friends, and work as well, can all cause stress that will take you down different paths in your life.
