From grades 1-5 students are actually “students”. They enjoy coming to school for the purpose of learning. The students are taught valuable lessons and actually retain this information. Once students leave primary school, everything the ways they are accustomed to being taught are changed dramatically. Upon entering middle school students are blindsided with a new array of teaching methods. Learning becomes a thing of the past. It becomes repetitive. Information is only presented for the purpose of passing one test. This is a problem. There are many problems with the education system in America. Some big, some small. I believe the main problem with our education system today is the focus. The focus is not on teaching our children to retain and learn information. The focus in most schools is preparing our kids for standardized tests. Teachers spend a lot of time on preparation for standardized tests and fail to prepare students for the next level of learning. I believe the school system is basically cramming student’s heads with information specifically to pass standardized tests and not really teaching them anything.
The students temporarily retain the information for the purpose of passing the test then they forget what they have “learned” shortly after. This is not the only problem with the school system just one I feel is important. The culture of schools in America needs to change. Many students have a “Just get it done” attitude in school and that is the reason kids are not really learning. For example homework, I rarely ever did homework at home. I got all of it done in school most times. In Most cases homework consists of reading a passage and answering some questions, but what does that show? That I can search for answers in a passage? While I believe that it takes individual desire to want to learn, something should be done so that students are forced to actually learn and retain some of the information being taught. Another serious problem with today’s education system is the teachers. Many teachers show up to work just for a paycheck. Teachers who don’t show interest and just show up because they have too, reflect on the students who then have the same attitude as the teachers. Effort starts with the teachers, if they don’t show any, why would the students.
High Needs School Teacher Application Essay
As a human with a certain compassion for those who are less fortunate than myself, I believe it is my innate responsibility to ensure that low-income school children receive the same educational benefits through my methodology of teaching. My past experiences in the field of education such as a piano teacher, a Spanish tutor, and childcare food program representative demonstrates my love for ...
Being a Teacher is not an easy task, but with the support from the school system it should help. Lack of support for teachers from school systems is a problem that could help both students and teachers for the better. There is a correlation between student accomplishment and teacher quality. Some teachers actually love teaching and helping students and that shows through students who enjoy and want to learn and those who make an effort to better themselves through education. Low funding is another significant problem with our school system. Not enough money is being put into the school system. More money would increase the activities that schools have to offer. It would also result in better pay for the teachers which might encourage them to do a better job. Students will see money being pumped into their schools and might be inspired to do better. Low-income schools result in uninterested students and teachers who often times don’t care because they feel the school system doesn’t either. Money won’t solve all problems but it can help.
The money can be used to fund more after school programs. Another problem that I think the school systems have today is discipline. I think that students should be punished in school for misbehaving but the methods used in school today in my opinion are not right. Looking from an academic standpoint, out of school suspensions are impractical. Forcing a child to miss days of class because of behavior is ridiculous. They miss out on learning and often times enjoy not having to go to class so where is the punishment really? Instead of making students miss time in the classroom, force them to spend more time in the classroom. Instead of out of school suspensions make them stay after school or use other means of punishment because suspension only hurts the child in my opinion. There are many problems with the school systems today. The problems and issues within the educational system wont be solved overnight, but with time and effort they can be fixed.
