Alvaro Uribe Velez
Has Alvaro Uribe Velez become a hero during his eight years being president of the republic of Colombia? Or is just one more president who has been stealing from the countries economy and its citizens? Weakening the strongest terrorist forces “ F.A.R.C.” (Revolutionary armed forces of Colombia), while trying to hold the Unites States government an ally in the struggle to maintain peace between Colombia and its two border countries, Venezuela and Ecuador. These are only some on the main aspects that can merely describe his role as a hero for this great country.

Alvaro Uribe Velez is the head of state government and supreme administrative authority of the republic of Colombia. He was born in July 4, 1952 in Medellin, Antioquia, is the 39th president of Colombia and is currently serving his second term in office. Alvaro Uribe Velez has done what many presidents of Colombia did not do since the F.A.R.C. were created in the early 1950’s. Mr. Uribe has been fighting since the day he was elected; in fact this has been one thing he has put effort, enthusiasm and most of his time in. The reason why he is so obsessed in eliminating the guerillas is because they murdered his father “ Alberto Uribe” in 1983. This incident occurred at his farm in the Guacharacas, Antioquia when he allegedly resisted getting abducted. That is why instead of sitting and talking peacefully with the F.A.R.C. he encouraged violence, war, destruction and death. He was quite sure that he would end the guerrilla this way, with many highs and lows it is possible to say that Uribe has been very successful even though there is still a lot to accomplish to bring peace to all Colombian citizens.

America the Great After the Spanish-American War, America became a super power of the world. That title has stuck since then. However, different political leaders have caused this country to become unworthy of such a title. Most of these leaders were democrats, such as JFK and Bill Clinton. The governments of Ecuador and Venezuela have been involved with the guerrillas according to some material found in one of their campsites, which was bombarded by the Colombian army following orders of president Uribe. Raul Reyes, one of the highest secretariat members of the F.A.R.C. was found dead in that certain incident that took place in the deep Ecuadorian jungle. Since that incident, the guerrilla has been loosing almost all of its secretariat members. However, we cannot say the guerrillas are finally defeated because there is always a big member left who is in charge of the entire operation. The presidents of Venezuela and Ecuador have canceled all commercial relationships with Colombia, because of conflict that arose due to the material found inside the computers of Raul Reyes. Uribe made a complaint against the presidents of these countries to international agencies. Abducting personal relations with F.A.R.C. where these terrorists gave monetary help to Rafael Correa the president of Ecuador when he was in campaign to be elected president. While, Hugo Chavez president of Venezuela was selling them Swedish military weapons. For that reason Alvaro Uribe has been relying on the Unites States for support.
The government of the Unites States has been an ally to Colombia since the drug trafficking problem started in the 1980’s. Yet due to Venezuelas’ Acquisition of Russian weapons, Uribe wants the United States to build three military bases in Colombian territory. Colombian citizens have not agreed to this accord. Recently Hugo Chavezs’ stipulation commented that Uribes’ government and Obamas’ government have plans to intimidate or even destroy much of the South American territory with these new military bases. It is known that president Hugo Cahavez is not very friendly especially with the “Gringos” the way he is used to call North Americans. Nevertheless, the United States have told Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador that they must settle the problems among themselves. The conflict between these countries will not have any end until Chavez and Correa surrender to the problematic issues or wait for change in government power.

In conclusion, Alvaro Uribe Velez has proven to all its citizens in and out of Colombia to be a true hero. From getting international allies to help him eliminate the F.A.R.C. and dealing with the conflict between its two neighbors (Venezuela and Ecuador) Uribe has become an unforgettable leader for the country. This is simply a great beginning to a long path that is yet to come, not leaving aside all of the many tasks he has approached in between. Good or bad, depending on each individuals perspective he will run for a third period in power not to let down all the supportive people that have believed and trusted him to bring peace to its entirety.
