Course Name : Field Trips and Seminars Course Description The course introduces the practice of the IS profession primarily through attending professional seminars and participating in field trips to computer industries. Students learn the various opportunities by which they can practice their chosen profession. Course Objective Discuss what constitute the practice of the computer science, information technology and information systems profession, opportunities in the field, career paths, and the role of IT in society. 1. Provide access to efficient and interactive learning of students through meaningful educational tours and/or field trips as required in their program requirement embodied in the approved curriculum; and 2. Provide quality educational tours and/or field trips relevant to the acquisition of the necessary knowledge, skills, and values for student welfare and development. 3. Broaden the students’ learning opportunities and a feel of the real world, therefore serving as a powerful motivator to strengthen the academe-industry linkage. (Article IV Section 6).
Course Requirements Mid Term 1. For the seminars, attend at least (4) minor seminars that discuss topics relating to information Systems namely Use of IS in Business, IT Management, Software Development, IS Planning, Human Computer Interaction, and ERP Systems. 2. Attend two (2) major seminars organized by the class coordinator. Major seminar must be a whole-day event inside or outside the school premises. 3. For the field trips, visit at least (6) companies (within CALABARZON and NCR).

Opportunity An opportunity to attend the organized international tour that includes company visits to IT companies and seminars that discuss emerging and innovative IT technologies present in the selected country would be provided at the end of the term to further elevate the immersion of students in IT cultures.

General Guidelines on Field Trips and Seminars 1. Each class will be divided into groups on the first day of class. 2. Members of each group will be responsible in the conduct of seminars and field trips which includes the following activities:
a. Planning and Coordination § The vehicle reservation for every trip will be coordinated at the GSD office and any cancellation before the trip should immediately be informed. § Passengers manifest is require before the trip § Include the total cost of the trip on the waiver before giving to the class. § Waiver must be given to the teacher a day before the trip. b. Collection of Fees and Documentation § If the seminar is inside DLSL and the professional fee is less than P3,000.00 the speaker will be given an honorarium § If the professional fee is above P3,000.00, the professional fee is subject to 10% tax. The student will shoulder the 10% tax and any other services fee. c. Implementation d. Assessment and Evaluation e. Submission of Reports including Financial Reports 3. Each group must organize at least one seminar and a field trip for the whole semester. The company to be visited and the topic for the seminar must be related to the respective discipline and subject for approval of the subject teacher. 4. A class must provide a plan/schedule of seminars/field trips to be monitored by the TIC. Every group must submit a status report a week before the event. In case the group will postpone the scheduled event, they must provide a report indicating the reason of postponing the event.

5. Each student is required to attend the said seminars and field trips. 6. A waiver will be issued for every Field Trip and Seminar and must be returned to the instructor after accomplishment a day before the seminar or field trip. Certificates will be given to attendees of each seminar. 7. Students should always be present in all company visits and seminar workshop since attendance is a major part of the final grade. In case a student fails to participate in any of the plant visit and seminar, the student must organize and accomplish a seminar or field trip to compensate the said absence. Every student is expected to exhibit the same level of professionalism and integrity during field trips and seminars that will distinguish them in their future careers. International Trip will serve as an opportunity for them to be performed at the end of the semester and is being requested by the students to be approved by the Department Chair and the Dean.
