There are two main functions for a business card, informative and interpersonal.
Informative function means that business cards usually provide a company or individual’s information, which can be used to introduce people themselves to others and build relations with others, besides it also can be used to inform others of your modified information.

4. Benefits of business card
Practical
Business cards are an extremely practical and convenient method of marketing. The small size of business cards means that sales professionals can carry them at all times, ready to give out to potential customers. Cards are practical for recipients as well; they can easily be placed in a pocket or wallet without being obtrusive, and reviewed at a later time. Business cards save time compared with manually written important information such as phone numbers and websites.
Inexpensive
Along with the practical element, business cards are also very inexpensive. Compared to other types of marketing materials, business cards deliver significant value. Business card printer templates can also be purchased from most office supply stores, allowing start-ups to print their own designs and save even more.
The Essay on Checkpoint the Information Systems Department
The Information Systems Department’s goal is to manage a company’s information through safe, secure and resourceful methods that can be accessed easily from anywhere inside the company. The Information Systems Department manages a wide variety of company information; everything from software, computers, storage, e-commerce, online websites, system integration, company networks, IT help, ...
Informative
Business cards provide a large amount of information in a compact design. Unlike many other types of media, business cards can easily be referenced or even filed away for later use. With a television commercial, for example, the viewer has only thirty seconds to retain the information presented. A business card, on the other hand, constantly displays important information. Cards can include a variety of details, ranging from contact information to special discounts and coupons.
Effective
Business cards can be very effective when promoting a business. Even as new promotional online tools emerge, business cards are still reliable tools. Despite advances in media technology, a significant amount of business is still conducted in person. Because people continue to meet and exchange information face to face, business cards act as an effective tool that marketers can use successfully every day.
5. Layout of business cards
Design the card so the contact information and company name stands out, but in an organized fashion. You want the information to be prominent, but you do not want it to be simply black on white. For example, you can add the logo in the upper left-hand corner, your contact information in the lower right-hand corner and your name and title in the middle of the card. This creates a balanced layout. Here is an example analysis.
6. Translation
Methods of business card translation
Literal translation means word for word translation. Although these translation may be as staff as a poker, people are easy to understand. For example, 中国中央纪律检查委员会can be translated the CPC Central Committee for Discipline Inspection, 九三学社 can be translated September 3 rd Society ,中国人民武装警察部队 The Chinese People’s Armed Police Force. When there are no similar institutions in foreign countries, this method can be applied.
Traditional translation, which means some translations are fixed. There is no need to translate again. For example, “部” translated in English is department and ministry. Those organizations which belong to central people’s government are translated department, while those organizations governed by the state council use ministry. Here are some examples,

宣传部 the propaganda department
统战部 the united front work department
民政部 the ministry of civil affairs
外交部 the foreign ministry
国防部 ministry of national defense
Free translation (functional equivalence translation)
As we all known, there are some words gap between Chinese and English. Therefore, it is possible to translate business card information into English word by word. In such cases, free translation can be applied, which means according to the meaning of the original, without paying attention the details but translation would also be natural and understandable. For example, 职工学校 could be translated as school for employees, which is difficult for foreigners to understand the exact job of school, so it might as well translate as staff and workers’ school. While free translation is a skill which translators must know the culture of both source language and target language, and must have extensive knowledge.
Name translation
Chinese name is usually made up of family name and given name, and people’ given name is mostly one or two words. According to Chinese habits, they would like to put family name in the front and then follow the given name and leave a blank space between them, but the first letter should be capitalized while the rest is lowercase, For example, Li Dahai. In accordance with English habits, given name usually in front of family name, for example, Junjie Lin. Apart from above two types of name translation, one’s English name add family name is also acceptable, for example, Andy Liu
Title translation
First of all, the translation of Chinese character “长” is discussed. In China, the Chinese characters 长,总,主 are always used to refer to the title of a leader. The most common post is the title always accompanied with a Chinese character“长”.Nevertheless, this word has a different way to be expressed in English. For instance, the words conveyed in this meaning are made up of the words, such as chief, president, general, and director. Besides, the words such as head, executive, supervisor and so on also give expression to this kind of meaning. Here, some examples are given to illustrate the analysis above.

Etiquette for Greetings and Business Cards As we do business in other countries and as we receive businesspeople from other countries in our American offices, it is important to know how to greet people and how to present our business cards. 董事长 Board Chairman
财务部部长 The Minister of Finance Department
市场部部长 The Minister of Market Department
公关部部长 Head/Chief of Public Relation Department
县长 County Chief
厂长 Factory Director /General Factory Manager
大学校长 President of University
医院院长 President of Hospital
学生会会长 President of the Student Union
大队长 Group Leader
司/局/厅长 Director
秘书长 Secretary-General
The Translation of“副”
The word “副” used in the title means it is a second, assistant and subordinate position which is distinguished from the post like director and president. Therefore, the social status represented by the title is not on the same level. For example, the associate professor is the title next to the professor in an institution of higher education. Thus it is improper for us to translate it into professor indiscriminately. In terms of a simple analysis based on the translation practice of many translators in China, the words vice and deputy are found the most common word to describe this kind of title. Vice and deputy is a pair of synonym and does not have any substantial distinction. And what word should be chosen in practical translation is depended heavily on the collocation. In general, vice can match with the word like president, premier, chairman, minister and governor, while deputy can put together with the word like director, chief, head, secretary, dean and mayor.
副总裁 Vice President
副经理 Assistant Manager
副董事长 Vice Chairman
副院长(大学学院) Associate Dean
副部长(企业或事业单位) Deputy Director
副秘书长 Deputy Secretary-General
Besides, we know some common titles with the prefix 名誉 and often adopt the translation of honorary or emeritus, for example.
名誉主席 Honorary Chairman
名誉校长 Emeritus President
Address translation
Compared with Chinese, English address translation is totally opposite, which account from small places to big ones.
Business Plan Example Lancaster County

In fact, the Chinese words 幢、栋、号楼 have the same meaning in English and all can be stood for building. When we translate the expression like 单元、大厦 in address ,the vocabulary building should be first consideration in particular for those modern commercial buildings. In addition, we have other words to call this kind of tall architecture, for example, tower, hall and mansion.
路 is road or abbreviated as Rd, for example, 中山二路 Second Zhongshan Rd.
街、道 is street, avenue, for example,
长安街 Chang’an Avenue 世纪大道 Century Avenue
里、弄、巷 is lane, for example, 大井巷 Dajing Lane
胡同 is alley, for example, 景阳胡同 Jingyang Alley
小区 is residential quarter/ area, for example, 星月小区 Xinyue Residential Quarter
Administrative division is the highest unit in address. China has a vast territory, thus the administrative division is so complicated and can be basically divided into five categories:
First is township level, which involves township, town, Ethnic Township and sub-district.
Second is county level, county level includes county, autonomous county, city and district.
The third is prefectural level, which contains prefecture, autonomous prefecture, and municipality or city.
The next one is provincial level, which consists of province, autonomous region municipality directly under the central government and special administration region county level includes county, autonomous county, city and district.
Last is state level, that is the People’s Republic of China, also called P.R. China or P.R.C; China.
Here is an example, 山东省莱芜市莱城区青年西路11号6楼 could be translated
6/F, 11 qing-nian Rd(w), laicheng district, laiwu, shangdong.
7. Etiquette of giving business cards
Have a business card ready at all times. Keep them in a briefcase, wallet, purse, glove box, gym bag, coat pocket, desk drawer, suitcase and desk top. Practice a business card presentation that conveys ease and confidence.
Offer only crisp, clean, business cards with current and correct information. Throw away damaged, bent or out-of-date cards.
Invest in business cards that reflect the business as well as the desired image. Hire a designer and use a professional printer for the best, most polished look.
Offer a business card only to those who have asked for it. Present the card face up and place it in the hand of the individual.
Offer only one business card at a time to an individual. Leave multiple business cards with an individual only if requested to do so. Request business cards from peers. Wait for individuals of higher position to offer a card.
Accept a business card as though it were a gift. Review the card carefully and ask any questions that come to mind, including pronunciation to avoid a gaff in the future. Thank the party for the card, compliment the card’s design or logo, and put it away carefully and thoughtfully in a planner, notebook or business card case.
Take advantage of opportunities for free advertising. Post a business card on bulletin boards dedicated to that purpose. Drop a business card into restaurants’ drawings.
8. Tips to create professional business cards
• Keep it Simple; the best key to design business cards easily
‘Keep it Simple’ is a never failing strategy while designing business cards. So, when you create a business card, try to keep it clean and avoid adding too many elements to make it more attractive.
• Too large images in the background are out of fashion now!
Using an image of two people shaking hands or a landscape is out of fashion now. With this, the design might look proletarian. Keeping some white space is a sensible thing to do.
• Use nice fonts but avoid too much of experimenting
Using one font type or two in business card design is sufficient. The outcome will perhaps be pleasing then. You can play around the thickness of the font and use different sizes of the same font
In conclusion, business cards help businesspeople present a good company image by highlighting the services provided by a particular company. They can also help to enhance the personal image of a businessperson. Production and printing costs of business cards are low, but benefits are high, as they make a statement in the business world. As a result, the market value of business cards is high. Therefore, it is indispensable to have a bilingual business card. This card is a bridge to let enterprises have a mutual understanding of each other. However, the translation of business card is not an easy thing, which requires us to have a solid foundation of language learning, rich practical experience and a profound understanding of indigenous and alien cultures. Thus the ideal translation is a result of cautious attitude and knowledge accumulation of every aspect in life.
