An important issue at the moment is the road toll, which is according to the Australian Berea of Statistics is currently on the rise.
Many hundreds of people die on our roads every year, some are innocent some are just an accident waiting to happen.
According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics females are the most dominate gender being victims, with 23 all ready been killed this year. This year 26 passengers have all ready been killed, this is 11 more than the same time last year. We can see it is a quick and rapid increase.
Rural Victoria still currently has the highest road death toll in Victoria with approximately 52 people dead so far this year and we are only towards the end of April
People aged 21 to 25 are the most at risk of having a crash and dying because this age group has the highest increase of road fatalities.
We have just come back from a lovely Easter break, but for 20 families it was the most horrific and terrible Easter they could ever imagine having. The Easter road toll summary as printed by The Australian published on the 27th of April 2011 by Jodie Minus, states that in Queensland a staggering 6 people were killed, 3 people were killed in Western Australia, in New South Wales a total of 5 people’s lives were taken, in our own state Victoria 3 people were tragically killed, in South Australia 2 people were killed, only one person lost their life in Tasmania and in the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory not a single person was killed over the Easter break.

Many believe that guns kill people but someone has to pull the trigger and ...
In relation to the article published by James O’Loan from The Courier-Mail, published on the 27th of April 2011, we can see that evidence from the National Database recorded 32,259 Australians were caught speeding over the Easter period.
Drivers are ignoring all the warnings and we have hard evidence to prove this as written by a staff writer of the Herald Sun which was published on the 12th of April 2011, the writer says “Despite the warnings, speed and alcohol remain key factors in numerous fatal accidents. Anti-drink- and drug-driving and speeding messages don’t seem to have registered with Australians.” What’s more they announce that the Victorian road toll is higher than at the same time last year, and this is the second time this has occurred this year.
We can sleep a little better at night knowing that the government, car markers and the Police are trying to dramatically reduce the road fatalities.
An article from The Advertiser, by Greg Kelton published on the 18th of April 2011, utters that “new technology in cars could cut road deaths by more than 800 a year and save billions dollars.
Cost estimates for the new technologies – such as airbags for motorbikes, laser pedestrian detection, forward-collision detection and alcohol interlocks– are between 1500 and 4000 dollars each.
