The 2007 film, Talk To me, captured a symptomatic content and subgenre of comedy
through a radio talk show personality in Washington, D.C. . On a platform, a film inspired by a true story with academy award nominee Don Cheadle, and actor Chiwetel Ejiofor. The technique, art form, as well as the director’s vision for the film, the audience can embrace the historic cultural aspects of this particular film.
Talk To Me, based on the life of a two times Emmy award winner television and radio-talk show host Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene Jr. and co-producer/director Dewey Hughes screenplay by Michael Genet. The story takes place in the United States capital of Washington, D.C. . However, director Kasi Lemmons and Michael Genet work very well with capturing the overall setting of the looks of the late sixties and early seventy of Washington, D.C. . The obvious choice was Washington, D.C. since the screenwriter Michael Genet story was based on the events that occurred in the city (Kasi Lemmons, 2007).
Director Kasi Lemmon, alone side costume designer Gersha Phillips recreated the fashion image of the seventy for a logistic setting for the main characters. The culture trends of the afro as well as flamboyant cloths and music of that era. The director utilizes the camera with long shot to give an audience a view of a cultural setting during seventy of Washington, D.C. . Furthermore, the props showed an audience the director vision of telling time in detail, without putting the years within every scene (Kasi Lemmon, July 12, 2007).

As a director there is a responsibility to create a film within the public view; however, the film Talk To Me, Kasi Lemmon research allowed her to present symbolism within the scene and using the technique deep focus to directly give the audience a deeper look into the action within the scene. The audience can connect to the intimate through the actors, allowing the viewer a better look beyond the plot. The cinematography technique allowed the audience point-of-view to be viewed in it various opinions about that Ralph Waldo “Petey” Green reaction to the situation.
Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene Jr. an ex-convict who talks his way out prison and talk his way into an on-air radio show. A humorous and serious out spoken personality with street metaphor, Petey Greene reaches out to the black community of Washington, D.C. after the slanging of Doctor Martin Luther King. Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene demonstrated allegory within the scene because of the realism, by telling the people the effect of the situation (Goodykoontz & Jacob, 2011).
This share with the audience on the history of the Civil Rights movement and how one voice help bring a community of Washington, D.C. together. Don Cheadle is the impersonator of the character Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene, and showing the ground breaking passion in a man for his community. The cinematography technique subjective camera applied by the director allowed the audience to see Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene and caller express them self over a dark time. The uses of three camera technique was require to the shot of the scene, showing the coverage going back as Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene speaks to the listener of the talk show. The use of continuity editing within the scene as the director focus on Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene showing images of the people in the streets, while talking to and hurt audience on a radio show. The music of a soft triumph play out in the background as Petey is expressing how the people can overcome the tragic. The director shot the scene in a fast- motion to view the action and end the scene with a fade-out.

Dewey Hughes a resident of Washington, D.C., and the program director of WOL-AM radio station was introduced to Ralph Waldo “Petey” Green by a family member in Lorton Reformatory Prison. Hughes decides to take a chance on Petey Greene with very little education; and with only the experience of talking, and play records over a P.A. system within Lorton Reformatory Prison. However, the calibration of the two men started a ground breaking moments by bringing a comedy urban style to radio and public television program during the time of social change due to Civil Rights movement, in which Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene point-of-view is clearly of the black community of Washington, D.C.. As stated, “I was definitely motivated by the structure of the relationship between the two men” (Kasi Lemmon, 07/12/2007).
Director Kasi Lemmon; narrative the film Talk To Me in a chronological order, by exploring the rise and fall of a relationship over the years gives the audience a straightforward story. Actors Don Cheadle and Chiwetel Ejiofor portray the realism acting style within the friendship. The actor’s performances gave a genuine impression that did not draw attention from their acting. Ralph Waldo “Petey” Green was outrageous character within himself, therefore, Don Cheadle did not have to improvise with character not giving the scene overacting or underacting. “Dewey Hughes works closely with director Kasi Lemmon with helping with the some dialogue with the scenes” (Kasi Lemmon , DVD Bonus feature , 2007).
The director wanted to show the realism acting within Chiwetel Ejiofor character giving the audience a view into an educated person that work hard in life, but also displaying the street metaphor as a pool hustler. The two character Dewey Hughes have an internal conflict were Petey Green is trying to tell him that he really does not what to be a star. This took place with the well-done cinematic of the recreation of The Tonight Show were the two main character distant their relationship.

The 2007 film, Talk To Me went far beyond the social impact of the sixty and in today society. It a being in the sixty with Dr. Martin Luther King with public protesting with sits in inside of restaurant during a time racial prejudge in society. The film addressed the public view of race in America in a period of the Civil Rights movement, that these boundaries are still an issue. The political conversation of oppressed community during the time motivated people to express them through boycotting and picking of a business establishment. With In the film; Talk To Me, a visual into a culture fashion, which was so heavily influence into a society of people? In the freedom of speech, the director shows the iconic image in the quality of radio. As the humorous voice of Petey and high spirit come across the radio; people tune into hear the music of that time frame, but to listen to person that speaks directly to them about the issue within black community and troubles of America. “I find cinema to be very beautiful medium to influence” ( Kasi Lemmon, 07/12/2007).
The director style was recognizable on the essential elements of the story, giving the audience a look at the images that can be accepted. Director Kasi Lemmon style carried the audience to montage, and the editing gave the shot in the scene a humor and dramatic effect. In this case, the director overall of shaping the story is feature throughout the film. “I made a decision that it was a story about friendship that also had this incredible time and place around it” (Kasi Lemmon, 07/12/2007) The movement within Talk To Me, displays the director exhibit of the late sixties and early seventy styles. Kasi Lemmon uses a traditional style of directing in telling the life of Ralph Waldo “Petey” Greene to keep the audience interesting to the story, making the director point of view evident. The director applied several lights technique to capture the skin tone, as well as the mood. In the content of the film the color hue make’s visual it within the costume, giving the character a deeper look of the seventy. High-key lighting made the scene very noticeable to see the style within the symbolic setting. The production designer working with the director use warm colors to keep the vision of the film significant art form.

In conclusion, Talk to Me portrays a humorous side with the urban language and structured around the time that the freedom of speech was express during the Civil Right movement of this nation through the voice of radio personality. The elements of the film worked as valuable components for viewers of a younger generation to get a closer look into a culture change in society. The director approach to the film share the overall history through the work cinematography techniques. Kasi Lemmon (Director) used the camera angle to shows the audience the cultural through the actors. The actor’s methods of performing different roles by giving the audience the art form of symbolic moments of the film Talk To Me. Throughout the history of film making, audience is attractive to good acting in a film. An extraordinary story that has strong symbolism that educate through the process of analysis.
