You shall cherish the glow of the sunset sky and a young moon appearing beneath the clouds. You shall listen to the chirping of the evening birds and the river flowing with a gentle calm. It’s a marvellous sight but to give it full attention and to observe it keenly one’s mind must be free from all kinds of worries, anxieties, preoccupations and speculations. Only when one’s mind is free in the best sense of the term one can really observe and enjoy the splendid beauty. In this matter lies a clue to the problem of freedom, the freedom of human mind.
Some people consider freedom to be a synonym of democracy. Others believe that it is an opportunity to act freely and embody ideas. There are also those who are sure that it is a possibility to do what they want regardless of the impact their actions will have on other people. A prisoner thinks that freedom is a life out of prison, where you decide everything on your own. For me, freedom is an absence of pressure and enforcement from other people. It is the right to live, to laugh, to be happy as long as I don’t infringe on someone else’s right to live. To be free, the freedom to do whatever I want as long as it’s in civil boundaries. To follow happiness, without a restriction from putting out the effort or making the sacrifices I need to, in order to be happy, as long as my actions are not preventing someone else in their efforts to do the same. It is a very wide notion, which every person understands differently and there can hardly be one common opinion.

Mere independence does not mean freedom. Many are independent but only a few are free. You know that you should not do a certain thing but still you can’t stop yourself from doing that which is wrong. One of the key implications of freedom is intelligence. It comes to one when one understands the various aspects of one’s environment. Environment is of many kinds, such as, social, religious, parental and a host of traditional influences. One requires deep insight to be free from and understand all kinds of influences. It has been generally observed that one submits to these influences when one is inwardly frightened.
Freedom is nothing but a state of mind which has no place for fear of anything. It is a state of mind where there is no compulsion and no urge to be safe in life. As a matter of fact all of us want to be famous and important. We want to be so many things. But the moment we want to be something or somebody we are no longer free.
The idea behind freedom is to be respectful and useful to our society. Freedom is important to everyone. If someone is deprived from this innate right, he will definitely feel as if he is not a respectful human being. When freedom is guaranteed, I can think freely, say my opinion without fear. Freedom of opinion is among the most important branches of freedom .In some societies where freedom of opinion is not guaranteed by the authority, creativity of mind is. Society is the largest and biggest loser from this lack of creativity. Someone once said, Freedom of opinion will never result in animosity among people if they respect each other. As I mentioned earlier, freedom is not an absolute right and there are too many constraints on it. Firstly, the society rights including national security which is very important. Security is as important as freedom. Our practicing of freedom should never lead to threatening our national security. Secondly freedom of belief to believe in what you want. We also should have the right to perform our religious actions.
Freedom is not absolute. Freedom must be limited. You cannot just do what you like and say “I am a free man”. You cannot kill, smuggle drugs or violate the laws and rules for freedom sake. There should be respect to other people and their needs. I’m definitely sure that everybody knows this statement: “My freedom ends where the freedom of another person starts”. Within the society the area of freedom available to each of the individuals is restricted. A person is free to do what laws and social customs do not forbid. Still, what distinguishes a free society from other societies is the extent of the restrictions put on freedom. We can hardly say that all the societies are free in the same way.

In summary, freedom is an innate right which we are born with. Nothing should threaten our freedom, deprive us from our right. Also our right of freedom must never harm any other human being, directly or indirectly. We must respect freedom of everyone in the society. This way we can enjoy our freedom through our life.
