Global Warming
Introduction
global warming is defined as the increase of the average temperature on Earth. As the Earth is getting hotter, disasters like hurricanes, droughts and floods are getting more frequent. The Earth has warmed up by about 0.6°C in the last 100 years. During this period, man-made emissions of greenhouse gases have increased, largely as a result of the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation. In the last 20 years, concern has grown that these two phenomena are, at least in part, associated with each other. That is to say, global warming is now considered most probably to be due to the enhanced greenhouse effect. Measurements of temperature taken by instruments all over the world, on land and at sea have revealed that during the 20th century. The Earth’s surface and lowest part of the atmosphere warmed up on average by about 0.6°C. During this period, man-madeemissions of greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide have increased, largely as a result of the burning of fossil fuels for energy and transportation, and land use changes including deforestation for agriculture. In the last 20 years, concern has grown that these two phenomena are, at least in part, associated with each other. That is to say, global warming is now considered most probably to be due to the increases in greenhouse gas emissions and concurrent increases in atmospheric greenhouse gas concentrations, which have enhanced the Earth’s natural greenhouse effect. Whilst other natural causes of climate change can cause global climate to change over similar periods of time, computer models demonstrate that in all probability there is a real discernible human influence on the global climate.

If the climate changes as current computer models have projected, global average surface temperature could be anywhere from 1.4 to 5.8°C higher by the end of the21st century than in 1990. To put this temperature change into context, the increase in global average surface temperature which brought the Earth out of the last major ice age 14,000 years ago was of the order of 4 to 5°C. The Framework Convention on Climate Change (1992) and the Kyoto Protocol (1997) represent the first steps taken by the international community to protect the Earth’s climate from dangerous man-made interference. Currently, nations have agreed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of about 5% from 1990 levels by the period 2008 to 2012. The UK, through its Climate Change Programme, has committed itself to a 12.5% cut in greenhouse gas emissions. Additional commitments for further greenhouse gas emission reduction will need to be negotiated during the
early part of the 21st century, if levels of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere are to be stabilised at reasonable levels. Existing and future targets can be achieved by embracing the concept of sustainable development – development today that does not compromise the development needs of future generations. In practical terms, this means using resources, particularly fossil-fuel-derived energy, more efficiently, re-using and recycling products where possible, and developing renewable forms of energy which are inexhaustible and do not pollute the atmosphere.
Seen from space, our atmosphere is but a tiny layer of gas around a huge bulky planet. But it is this gaseous outer ring and its misleadingly called greenhouse effect that makes life on Earth possible – and that could destroy life as we know it.
The Global warming issues was the increase in greenhouse gases. It caused by human activity is often cited as one of the major causes of global warming. These greenhouse gases reabsorb heat reflected from the Earth’s surface, thus trapping the heat in our atmosphere. This natural process is essential for life on Earth because it plays an important role in regulating the Earth’s temperature. However, over the last several hundred years, humans have been artificially increasing the concentration of these gases, mainly carbon dioxide and methane in the Earth’s atmosphere. These gases build up and prevent additional thermal radiation from leaving the Earth, thereby trapping excess heat.
One of the greenhouse gases was water vapor, the tops the list of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. The earth continuously produces water vapor, which evaporates and then goes up to the atmosphere. Clouds, fog, and haze are all part of water vapor, with steam being the main fossil fuel combustion byproduct. Steam from water comprises up to 70 percent of the total greenhouse effect. Even worse is the vicious cycle of the warming effect currently happening, because higher temperatures actually create more water vapor, which then causes temperatures to rise yet again, and so on.

On the other hand, the carbon dioxide is another one of the major greenhouse gases, but it is the second most prevalent in the atmosphere after water vapor. It is released when power plants process fossil fuels, and also from the breathing of humans and animals, and others. Although carbon dioxide is often considered the worst greenhouse gas, it is not actually true. However, since there is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere than any other greenhouse gases emitted by humans ,it does have the most obvious impact.

Since global warming is mainly caused by human, functionalists identify the source of environmental problems and therefore man should be sensitive to both the manifest and latent consequences of their actions on the environment. Global warming plays a manifest function to create awareness of unintended negative consequences of social actions. People can get information through mass media such as news channels, newspaper, and radio and other sources of medium about global warming, and thus they will know what should do to reduce the bad impacts incurred by global warming and solve the problem. This awareness also helps people to emphasize on the stability of the society. People could learn how to behave in the right way since they know everyone is responsible to maintain the balance of the interaction between human and environment. Since responsibility can be taught as the seriousness of global warming raises the alertness and awareness for those who are not treat the society properly, stability of the society can be improved as for sure.

Agriculturally, Dr. Wittwer is the scientific pioneer who conducted the original studies on atmospheric CO2 enhancement of the production of food crops. He believes that global warming helps increase food production because is good for the human race. He says, “The most determinant factor in agriculture production is climate. History reveals that for food production, warming is better than cooling.” Dr. Wittwer also explained that food is one of the most important things in our lives and carbon dioxide is an essential nutrient for the production of food. Therefore, for those people who are in hunger and poverty as they are engaged in weak agricultural development instead of the other industries which are growing rapidly such as crude oil, natural gas and so on. Dr.Wittwer believes food production should be one of the main concerns that global warming actually could bring better life for them indirectly.

The dysfunction of global warming is the bad life conditions that many parts of the worlds will suffer as starvation, malnutrition and increased death due to food, crop and water shortages. High level of air pollution in our environment will decrease human health and will cause asthma and allergies. Besides, ice caps are melting down due to the climates change which are increasing the sea levels and water will reaching the low land and flooding over them. Many places in the low land will disappear if this happen. In the other hand, the temperature of our planet will begin to rise and these drastic changes in the climate will cause increased frequency in natural like storm, heat waves, landslides, avalanches and acidity of rainfall. When many people in the society get sick due to the global warming, high cost of medical fees have to paid, economy will eventually dropped. Therefore, anomie occurred as people could not afford their living and felt loss of direction. This will lead to the social problems like robbery, stealing, thievery and burglary to be happened more frequently.

WAYS TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM
First, get a white roof because white roofs drastically cut back on the amount of heat energy your house creates. Instead of absorbing most solar energy and converting it to heat energy like most black roofs do, white roofs are much more reflective. This prevents extra heat energy from contributing to the melting of ice caps, which in turn creates more global warming.
Second, try riding a bike because this would make a tremendous difference. If you only live a mile or two away from work, why not try to save the earth while shedding a few pounds? You can get into good shape without really spending a whole lot of extra time exercizing during the day. Who knows, maybe you will save a buck or two on gas too!
Third, fiberglass does wonder because this tip will not only help save the world, but also your pocketbook. How much money do you spend on heating and air every month? In older homes, adding a little insulation can cut the heating bills in half! If you dont want to insulate everywhere, focus on putting it in the roof. This really won’t take as much time as you think. And while you’re at it, some new triple paned windows would also help on your bill, but they can be slightly more costly…
Fourth, remember to unplug. Unplug your TV, computer, microwave, and whatever else is just using idle power in the night. Almost everything plugged into the outlet uses energy during the night. If you can avoid having something plugged in during the night, then by all means do it. This will also help to drastically save on your electrical bill. If you have a laptop, you should do this anyway. Keeping your battery plugged in constantly will ruin it!
Fifth, buy used things.When you buy a used car, you could be cutting back on emissions. I know that many used cars do not get quite the gas milage of some of the newer ones, but think about all of the emissions that went into creating the new car? Or maybe each of its individual parts? When you think about it, they really add up. If you find a used car in decent shape with comperable gas milage, you would be much better off getting it.
The final tip is to be sensible.You should know that you shouldn’t burn a big pile of garbage or drive around an SUV that gets 11 mpg. However, people still do these things. These tips should be common sense to you. Maybe a little change in lifestyle, a trip to the recycling center or to a junkyard might be right for you. Maybe adding a few fluorescent lightbulbs to your house, or letting natural light into your house in the winter is right for you. Whatever you need to do, there is always a way that you can minimize your carbon footprint.

EFFECT OF GLOBAL WARMING
Green house gases stay can stay in the atmosphere for an amount of years ranging from decades to hundreds and thousands of years. No matter what we do, global warming is going to have some effect on Earth. Here are the 5 deadliest effects of global warming.
First, Polar ice caps melting. The ice caps melting is a four-pronged danger.
Second, Economic consequences. Most of the effects of anthropogenic global warming won’t be good. And these effects spell one thing for the countries of the world: economic consequences. Hurricanes cause do billions of dollars in damage, diseases cost money to treat and control and conflicts exacerbate all of these.
Third, Increased probability and intensity of droughts and heat waves. Although some areas of Earth will become wetter due to global warming, other areas will suffer serious droughts and heat waves. Africa will receive the worst of it, with more severe droughts also expected in Europe. Water is already a dangerously rare commodity in Africa, and according to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, global warming will exacerbate the conditions and could lead to conflicts and war.
Fourth, Warmer waters and more hurricanes. As the temperature of oceans rises, so will the probability of more frequent and stronger hurricanes. We saw in this in 2004 and 2005.
Fifth, spread of disease. As northern countries warm, disease carrying insects migrate north, bringing plague and disease with them. Indeed some scientists believe that in some countries thanks to global warming, malaria has not been fully eradicated.
Apart from that, it will also raise the sea levels. There are 5,773,000 cubic miles of water in ice caps, glaciers, and permanent snow. According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center, if all glaciers melted today the seas would rise about 230 feet. Luckily, that’s not going to happen all in one go! But sea levels will rise.
The melting ice caps will throw the global ecosystem out of balance. The ice caps are fresh water, and when they melt they will desalinate the ocean, or in plain English – make it less salty. The desalinization of the gulf current will “screw up” ocean currents, which regulate temperatures.
The stream shutdown or irregularity would cool the area around north-east America and Western Europe. Luckily, that will slow some of the other effects of global warming in that area! The temperature will rises and changing landscapes in the artic circle will endanger several species of animals. Only the most adaptable will survive.
Global warming could snowball with the ice caps gone. Ice caps are white, and reflect sunlight, much of which is relected back into space, further cooling Earth. If the ice caps melt, the only reflector is the ocean. Darker colors absorb sunlight, further warming the Earth.
The planet is also warming, from North Pole to South Pole, and everywhere in between. Globally, the mercury is already up more than 1 degree Fahrenheit (0.8 degree Celsius), and even more in sensitive polar regions. And the effects of rising temperatures aren’t waiting for some far-flung future. They’re happening right now. Signs are appearing all over, and some of them are
surprising. The heat is not only melting glaciers and sea ice, it’s also shifting precipitation patterns and setting animals on the move.

People are doing many things to try to stop global warming. One thing people are doing is carpooling. Carpooling is driving with someone to a place that you are both going to. This minimizes the amount of greenhouse gases put into the air by a car.
Another thing that people are doing is being more careful about leaving things turned on like the television, computer, and the lights. A lot of people are taking time away from the television, and instead, they are spending more time outdoors. This helps our planet out a lot. Now, more people are even riding busses, walking to school, and riding their bikes to lower the amount of greenhouse gases in the air. Planting trees and recycling also helps. If you recycle, less trash goes to the dump, and less trash gets burned. As a result, there are fewer greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere.
Watch what you buy. Many things, such as hairspray and deodorant, now are made to have less of an impact on the atmosphere. Less greenhouse gasses will rise into the air, and global warming will slow down.
Kid can help stop global warming, too!
Although adults do many things to help stop global warming, kids can do just as much. Kids can’t do hard things like making a law, but we can do easier things like not watching as much TV. You can listen to your parents when they say, turn off your lights or go play outside. Listening to them and actually trying to help can help you, your environment, and the world.

The government is doing many things to help stop global warming. The government made a law called The Clean Air Act so there is less air pollution. Global warming is making people get very bad illnesses that could make them disabled, very sick, and sometimes even die. The Clean Air Act is making many companies change their products to decrease these problems. Part of the law says that you may not put a certain amount of pollutants in the air. Hairspray and some other products, like foam cups, had this problem. Making and using these products let out too much volatile organic compounds (VOC’s), ozone-destroying chemicals (chlorofluorocarbons (CFC’s), and related chemicals (such as CO2) into the air. Now, almost all of these products have a label on them telling people what this product can do to the environment and many people. By 2015 all products listed on the Clean Air Act will have this label on them.
Almost all of the other chemicals that could be harmful will have this label on them hopefully by this time (2015) as well.
The Clean Air Act has also made car companies change some of the things inside of the cars. Cars pollute a lot. While cars make more than half of the world’s smog (visible pollution in the air), many things that cars need to move and heat up make even more pollution. Some things that are inside of cars, buses, trucks, and motorcycles, like gasoline, pollute the air when the fuel is burned. It comes out as a chemical and when mixed in the air, forms smog. Smog is a kind of pollution that you see in the form of a cloud. If you have ever been to California you can see a lot of smog in some places. Sometimes the smog gets so bad that you cannot see at all! Smog forms when car exhaust, pollution from homes, and pollution from factories mixes in the air and has a chemical reaction. The sun’s heat and light add to the reaction.
Cars, buses, and trucks are also responsible for over 50% of dangerous chemicals let into the air. Some of these chemicals can cause cancer, birth defects, trouble breathing, brain and nerve damage, lung injures, and burning eyes. Some of the pollutants are so harmful that they can even cause death.
Conclusion
Global warming is when the earth heats up (the temperature rises). It happens when greenhouse gases (carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and methane) trap heat and light from the sun in the earth’s atmosphere, which increases the temperature. This hurts many people, animals, and plants. Many cannot take the change, so they die.
Many people think that the current phase of global warming was directly caused by human beings who have invented such things as cement, electric power, internal combustion engines and furnaces and water heaters which use oil or gas as fuels. Global Warming is a major issue due to the industrialization and progress by humankind since the past few years. There has been a hue and cry about Global Warming ever since the idea was first put forward. There are many articles on Global Warming on the internet as well print media which give further details about the causes of Global Warming.
The Earth has cycled through many phases of warming and cooling over the billions of years of its history due to the greenhouse effect. There are many natural factors that contribute to the greenhouse effect, but most of these occur very slowly over many millennia. Temperature is increasing faster than ever on a global scale that cannot be explained by these natural processes.
To save our earth, we need to take some actions. In our opinion, we need to carry out 3R: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. We need to reduce waste by choosing reusable products instead of disposables. Buying products with minimal packaging (including the economy size when that makes sense for you) will help to reduce waste. And whenever you can, recycle paper, plastic, newspaper, glass and aluminum cans.
We must also use less heat and air Conditioning. We can also drive less and drive smart because less driving means fewer emissions. The most important is we must plant more tree because during photosynthesis, trees and other plants absorb carbon dioxide and give off oxygen. They are an integral part of the natural atmospheric exchange cycle here on Earth, but there are too few of them to fully counter the increases in carbon dioxide caused by automobile traffic, manufacturing and other human activities.
In conclusion, global warming is a serious problem that can lead to climate changing and desertification; however we can deal with it with some ways that i had listed out just now. I believe human are responsible of this problem .So we must all agree in a possible way to solve it before the bad consequences happen!
