With the Internet being the largest network available in the world, identity theft and online scams are occurring every second of the day. There are many unsafe websites on the internet and some offer promising notes that if you click on such a page you will win this. Some people, in doing this, give their information thinking they have won a grand prize and to their surprise they have not. Now, a criminal has all their personal information and can do whatever he pleases with it. Thus, sometimes, resulting in identity theft. Weeks later, with no signs at all, they may receive a credit card bill with lots of things they did not charge on it…the person that got their information took the liberty and did. Now, this poor person needs to report the case to the appropriate people.
How can you minimize the risk of identity theft? There are many ways you can believe it or not. Just simply being aware. For example, thieves can steal your identity many ways like dumpster diving, skimmimg, changing your address, just stealing it, and there is pretexting. Phishing on the other hand is the most likely to happen, it is when they pretend to be financial institutions or companies and send spam or pop-up messages over the internet to get you to reveal your personal information, and usually get away with it for a while until you noticed your credit cards ran out or the bill comes to the house at the end of the most and have no idea what to do about it. So if you would like to minimize the number of thieves, just better yourself and care about what you are doing with all of your important information. Pretty much have some kind of security on the information that means most to you so you don’t get tricked in the end. And if someone is a dumpster diver is disgusting. They can easily go get a job at a fast food place instead of diving in dumpster to get some money; some people just make me sick. Bottom line, for future reference be safe and secure with your information.
