BEYOND THE EUPHORIA
I agree with the points highlighted in the article because of the issues raise indicate the grave concern the author believes each Jamaican national should be concerned about. The disquieting perception in the article is that these issues have been ongoing for sadly more than four decades. It is enough to make a reader question whether Jamaicans are simply complacent or vaguely unaware of the distressing situation. In addition to this, a worrying aspect is that the Jamaican government seems content to sit on its proverbial laurels and do nothing about improving the performance of the country. This situation calls to mind the legendary tale of the Roman Emperor Nero, who was alleged to play his fiddle while chaos reigned as his city burned.
Jamaica is a small island known for its strong global presence in the global community. Their musical genres, tourism, a vibrant culture a relatively stable democratic system come also with a good strategic location and a great back ground in sports (cricket and track and field).
It was thus with inevitable joy and pride that they celebrated their 50th Independence anniversary after a spectacular performance by outstanding athletes such as Usain Bolt Shelly- Ann Fraser- Pryce and company in London 2012 Olympics. Jamaicans are known to be patriotic individuals in any country they go showing off their national colours and speaking about their culture showing a sense of pride. But the question still arise: How is it possible that a country with such a wide span economy as Jamaica can be faced with so many challenges?
The Essay on Country and Rap Music
The types of music that people listen to are very diverse. Country and rap music are just two of these types of music and the composition of audience that listen to these types greatly vary. The primary reason is that country music is commonly identified with white people who live in the countryside while rap music is commonly associated with black people living in urban cities. For the most part, ...
Although many governments have changed and the issues still persist. The author highlights that the major challenges facing the financial sector is allocating adequate domestic savings adequate. These savings will justifiably support the levels of investment needed to ensure the growth rate of the economy and meet the needs of Jamaica’s growing population. On the social aspect Jamaica also face problematic matters such as, high levels of crime and violence, unemployment, lack of proper educational opportunities, lack of morals and values within the home which is most times caused by poverty.
It was noted that after gaining independence in 1962 there was an annual average growth of over 6 per cent during the period 1955- 1970 from foreign investments. These investments aided in developing the mining and processing of bauxite, hotels and small scale import substituting manufacturing. By the 1970’s this modelling growth was exhausted and had failed to generate sufficient wealth to deal with the social deficits generated by colonialism, which included high levels of poverty unemployment illiteracy and inequality. By the ending of the 1960’s not only was the economic possibilities exhausted but the system was facing major social crisis a requirement was made that a fundamental policy shift from the import –substitution development model to an export led approach to be built around a strong social cohesion. To date the Planning Institute of Jamaica director general Dr. Gladstone Hutchinson stated that the economic performance for period April to June quarter was “Relatively flat” showing a general weakening of the economy. The employed labour force continued to decline causing the unemployment level to 179,900 persons making it the highest recorded in 12 years while the 14.3 per cent unemployment rate was the highest in 10 years. Nearly 30 per cent of high school students dropped out just before their final year and standardised test scores are sinking. Over the past decade the island had the world’s third highest murder rate. Is there anything being done to reduce the crime rates?
The Essay on Higher Education Government People College
I believe that the government should make higher education available to every young person that qualifies due to their study and good grades and are willing to repay their debt once their education is over. Some people would disagree, stating that it is not the governments responsibility to put people through college. They also may argue that the added eight billion dollars it would cost a year is ...
One probable suggestion that I am personally putting forward is that the Jamaican government firstly should implement a proper financial system to deal with their economic downfall. This issue I believe is the major issue that has cause-and-effect result. Additionally, poverty in Jamaica take away many opportunities from people or children to get proper education. School systems have to be enhanced to get better results at school leaving exams moving away from the ancient rules and anecdote which was established since Emancipation. There are no assisting funds from the government to pay for tuition fees if a child is interested to further his/her education. There are opportunities for those who cannot afford further education in the vocational arena through the Human Employment and Resource Training-National Training Agency through an extensive scholarship network but are these scholarships available to all students who are interested or just a handful of 5% ? Where would the other 95% go? With a lack of knowledge and no sense of belonging this leave an individual free to negativity that may be in their midst. Job market on a downfall, in recent times the Bank of Jamaica Governor Brian Wynter rejoiced with agreements on wage restraint for 2010-2012 periods it was stated that” expenditure on wages was significantly erode” . The logic behind this all is either wage restraint or job cuts. Where does that lead the public to? Poverty on a rise, the only seeming option is criminal activities or hustling to make “fast money”.
The Jamaican government should use their success in the Olympics as a stepping stone for the country using it to gain recognition, recognition not only of the athletic prowess of their athletes, but investment opportunities. This would inevitably lead to a rise in tourism and advance career and vocational aspects of the nation. They need to bring forth new ides to the plate to meet the challenges of the 21st century the financial sector must provide an adequate range of saving instrument at minimum risk to savers and must vigorously prompt the business of intermediation to meet the challenges of the 21st To meet the challenge of the 21st century the financial sector. Persons involved should have high integrity including skill in allocation of savings to uses of greatest marginal benefit to the economy.
The Essay on African Jamaica Mento Music Jamaican
Mento, Jamaican Music Mento? When most people think of music in Jamaica, they think Reggae, or some people think the name Bob Marley as synonymous with Jamaica, and sometimes the name precedes Jamaica. And while Reggae music has been one of Jamaica's great exports, there was a long history to reach that point. Many people must have heard of Ska or Rock Steady as Reggae's origin. Before Reggae, ...
In conclusion I think the government should start showing the citizens of Jamaica that is there still hope for a better welfare, and also the citizen have their part to play by building their self confidence, higher moral value standards, thinking of better ways to work with what they have and know that change takes time. According to the article “fixing these problems will not be without substantial pain and will require the understanding and buy-in of the Jamaican people”. The government need to start the hard work of reforming and cease from the constant lip services.
