What Are The Meridian?
The meridian, or channels, are invisible qi pathways which form an energy network which connects all parts of the body, and connects the body to the universe. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine the body has twelve major meridian, as well as various collateral and sub-collateral meridian throughout the body. Each meridian is related to a specific Organ System in the body. The meridian pathways are often thought of as a network which links each meridian with each other as well as connecting all body structures such as the skin, tendons, bone, internal organs, and cellular structure, which enable Qi to flow freely throughout.

How The Meridian Work
The meridian network is analogous to a system of highways, roads and streets that links major cities. The highways (the meridian) and the cities (organs) make up an entire energy matrix or map (the body).
It is through this system of integrated roadways that energy (Qi) runs. For example, if a city’s internal streets are congested with traffic, eventually this situation will cause a problem with the major highways leading into this city. If the traffic condition worsens, all the cities linked by the major highways will experience a problem. Or, two cities may be fine and traffic may be flowing smoothly within their areas. Yet, if there is an accident and traffic builds up on one of the roads that link the cities, eventually one or both of these cities will find themselves affected by the traffic congestion. This helps us to understand how blockages in the meridian can cause problems in organs.

The ancient medical text Neijing states: “The function of the channel (meridian) is to transport the Qi and blood and circulate yin and yang to nourish the body.” Meridians form a powerful organic information system within which each Organ also forms its own data system. In addition to the transfer of the flow of Qi, meridians also transmit biological information to and among the Organ Systems. When the meridian system is clear and free flowing, the body (including its mind, spirit and emotions) is healthy and maintains its original state of wholeness.

The Meridian and Healing
Because the meridian respond to and carry stimulation as well as transmit information, they have the ability to bring healing qi energy to local, as well as distant, parts of the body. This can create physiological and emotional changes in the body as the Qi circulates. It is this function that makes acupuncture and acupressure work: at specific points along the meridian, the flow of Qi can be enhanced or modified either with needles or with the pressure of the finger or the hands. Energy practices such Qigong and yoga, with its postures and movements, also affects the flow of Qi.

The Meridians work by regulating the energy functions of the body and keeping it in balance. Chakras and Meridians
Chakras have a form of more or less regular spheres with the exception of the upper sahasrara chakra, which is flattened vertically and looks like a horizontally lying disk.
Chakras do not have, as some authors claim, an internal lotus-like structure; this is a fantasy. Although, an exercise involving creation of temporary images of flowers inside chakras and even feeling their delicate aroma in them is a very good exercise.
Chakras also do not have a specific color inherent to them and they are not supposed to have it. This is also nothing but a popular fantasy. And attempts of coloring the chakras in accordance with colors of the rainbow constitute a downright and serious self-injuring or injuring of the disciples, who followed such recommendations.
One has to strive to cleanse the chakras as much as possible of all impurities that are energetically coarser than a tender white color with a slight goldish-amber hue. This is the path to cognizing Atman and God. But deliberate fixation of other colors inside the chakras means tuning them to coarser modes of operation, which cripples students and prevents them from attaining Perfection.
It is beneficial to let morning sunlight or scents of flowers into the cleansed chakras.

God once gave me a wonderful method of cleansing anahata and other chakras — an exercise with a tetrahedron. If this exercise is supplemented with influencing the chakras by particular sound vibrations specific for each chakra (mantras), then in a couple of months of training the chakras transform into structures shining with tenderness and purity.
Working with a tetrahedron and with yidam as well as developing other chakras — this is the level of seriousness of exercises which must not be open to everyone interested.
Under no circumstances those who did not switch totally and forever to thekilling-free diet on ethical grounds or those who do not show progress in the refinement of the consciousness, should do this kind of exercises.
Otherwise, the very methods that can produce a refining and purifying effect on the organism, will fix and increase its energetic coarseness. This is the path in the opposite from God direction.

This kind of psychoenergetic work is also incompatible with taking alcohol — even in the form of kvass, kumiss or industrially manufactured kefir. The reason for this is that the fine structures of the organism that are being built get destroyed in this case, which leads to dangerous illnesses. People starting this kind of work have to give up alcohol forever.
These methods increase the practitioner’s sensitivity to energetic influence from other people as well as to information that spirits of lower levels of development may impose. Therefore there is a danger that people who are not intellectually and ethically mature will not be able to react adequately to this kind of influence, especially in precarious situations, be they real or imaginary.
Because of this people less than 20 years old must not engage in this kind of work. Actually, only few adults may benefit from it.
Psychoenergetic trainings that result in one’s reaching high levels of refinement of the consciousness and — as a consequence — to feeling of its “nakedness” under no circumstances must be conducted for the masses of people. Only the selected ones can be admitted to them. The rest of people have a possibility to grow intellectually and ethically in the conditions of exoteric work on self-improvement: by accumulating new knowledge, by serving other people, and by strengthening one’s own faith.

There are seven chakras, in total. Sometimes another number is quoted, but this is a result of misunderstanding. For example, other energy centers or even structures artificially created inside or outside the body are referred to as chakras.
There are also erroneous opinions as to localization of the chakras. For instance, in a range of incompetent publications anahata (the spiritual heart) is placed in the stomach area and manipura “slides down” to umbilical region.
In reality the chakras are located as follows:

Ajna — a large chakra located in the middle of the head, coincident with the central parts of the brain;
Vishudha — a chakra located in the lower half of the neck and at the level of collarbones;
Anahata— a chakra located in the chest between the collarbones and solar plexus;
Manipura — a chakra of the upper part of the abdomen;
Svadhistana — a chakra of the lower part of the abdomen;
Muladhara — a chakra located in the lower part of the pelvis between the coccyx and the share bone.
The level of development of individual chakras corresponds with one’s psychological features. So, when the following chakras are developed:
sahasrara — there is the pronounced ability of thinking strategically, i.e. the ability to see the “big picture”, to comprehend the whole situation “from above”, which allows such people to be broad-thinking managers;
ajna — one possesses a “tactical thinking” ability, which allows dealing successfully with particular problems in science, business, family life, etc.;
vishudha — there is the ability for aesthetical perception; good painters, musicians, and other artists are people with well-developed vishudha;
anahata — one possesses the ability to love emotionally (to love not “from the mind”, but “from the heart”);
manipura — the ability to act energetically; but sometimes it is accompanied with a disposition toward dominance of irritation and other manifestations of anger;
svadhistana — a well pronounced reproductive function;
Muladhara — psychological stability in various situations.

The next stage of work after cleansing and development of the chakras (it will be discussed in the next chapters) consists in bringing the main meridians of the body to proper state. These are the meridians that make up the microcosmic orbit, as well as themiddle meridian.
When one has cleansed the microcosmic orbit, the energy of the two lower chakras can be raised through the spinal canals, leaped over the head meridians to the front side of the body and brought down through the front meridian, which runs like a flat hose along the front side of the body.

This exercise of circulating energy around the microcosmic orbit produces a strong positive emotional effect; it also “burns” coarse energies of the organism in thefront meridian, which makes for further improvement of health as well as for the cleansing and refinement of the organism.
The middle meridian is a wide canal (corresponding to the diameter of the chakras developed at the stage of raja yoga), which integrates the entire “column” of the chakras.
Its significance is immense since it allows one to combine all the chakras into one complex with a spacious corridor. Working with it also allows one to performcrystallization of the consciousness in the subtle eons, in which this meridian exists, up to the volume of the body.
Cleansing the middle meridian and its walls leads to further health improvement.
And on the highest stages of psychoenergetic work, this structure is essential for working with kundalini.
Work with the middle meridian can be performed with the help of a special mantra on special energetically significant areas on the Earth’s surface (places of power) or with the help of participation of a competent instructor.
The next principal stage is moving the consciousness into the energy cocoon that surrounds the body and crystallization of the consciousness in its volume.
After that, one has to realize the segmentation of the cocoon into two bubbles of perception: the upper and the lower. The upper one includes the three upper chakras; the lower one — the four lower chakras.
With our upper bubble of perception, we perceive the world of material objects; with the lower one we perceive non-material worlds.

The entire human body, as well as bodies of animals and even plants, is run through by numerous canals, invisible to ordinary eyesight, that channel energies of various levels of subtlety around the organism. Meridians can be seen by people whose range of perception was expanded with the help of meditative training.
Because of inflammatory processes in the body tissues, contaminating type of nutrition or external negative energetic influence, meridians can lose their conductivity. Then lingering disorders of the organs deprived of proper energy supply may develop. Such diseases usually cannot be completely cured by drug therapy. In such cases, acupunctural methods and similar therapeutic techniques: laser, vibration and other kinds of influence through “biologically active points” (acupuncture points) of the integument turn out to be efficient. These methods work because they restore conductivity of meridians by means of sending currents of energy through them.
Main Meridians and Their Functions
There are several important meridians that can be successfully used in psychic self-regulation.
All chakras are connected with one another by several large meridians that run along the spine, as well as the front and the middle part of the body.
A wide canal called sushumna (tu-mo or du-mo in Chinese) runs along the spine from muladhara to sahasrara. One of its functions is to distribute the energy accumulated in muladhara to other chakras. This energetic potential is formed primarily of svadhisthanic energy — udana (through sublimation, i.e. transformation of udana into energies of other chakras), unless one does not waste the latter due to overtiredness or illness.
Within sushumna — in its back section — there is a significantly narrower canal (its diameter is about 2 centimeters), called vajrini, through which udana flows to other chakras.
The third of the spinal canals — chitrini (Brahma nadi) — is located behind sushumna. It begins at the end section of sahasrara, passes under the occipital bone and runs down the back part of the neck and then — down the backmost part of the spinal column, coinciding with the spinous processes of vertebras and the skin.
Chitrini is an exceptionally important structure for man. It gives us a standard of a most subtle state. This is the Holy Spirit’s level of subtlety. Upon learning to concentrate in chitrini, one can easily “dive” with the consciousness through this canal into the eons of the Holy Spirit.
The system of chakras is also communicated by the front channel zhen-mo. It begins from the upper end of sushumna, forks into two branches that turn around sahasrara and join in the forehead area to split into several small canals that run down the face and join again in the vishudha region. One more branch of this canal crosses through the middle of the head, reaches the chin coming through the palate and joins the other branches at the neck. After that, the canal runs down the front side of the trunk, branching off to every chakra, passes the share bone and heads for the coccyx.
Especially interesting is the upper part of this canal that unites the four chakras of the so-called emotional center — anahata, vishudha, manipura and ajna — into one functional block.
The leading role in this complex is played by anahata and vishudha, of course. The intensity of one’s emotions depends to a certain extent on the manipura chakra, while the ajna chakra serves as a liaison for interaction with the hypothalamic-pituitary complex, which plays an extremely important role in coordination of emotional and behavioral reactions of the entire organism through the endocrine control system.
Only those people whose front canal is well-developed and who know how to use it are able to experience truly exalted positive emotions in communicating with other people and with nature. But such people are extremely few: only a handful per thousands. Most people do not have a developed front canal, and it takes special efforts to develop it.
In Chinese tradition, the system of the spine and the front canals is calledmicrocosmic orbit. By means of circulation around the microcosmic orbit, one of the stages of transformation of energy within the organism is performed. The aim of this stage is the production and accumulation of the “golden elixir” in the human organism — this is what the subtlest energy obtained as a result of such transformation was called in the ancient alchemy.
Performance of exercises with the microcosmic orbit produces a strong emotional effect, changing the entire personality, making man buoyant and willing to give his sincere cordial love to other people.
It should be mentioned also that there are methods of Chinese Qi Gong that involve work with the microcosmic orbit without preceding thorough cleansing and development of chakras and meridians. In such cases, the entire work is performed only at the level of visual images, while purifying, healing, and refining effects are not obtained.
On one of the subtlest planes the system of chakras is communicated by another canal — the middle meridian. This wide meridian connects the developed chakras, running vertically through the middle of the entire body. It forms along with the development of chakras: it cannot be found in people whose chakras are undeveloped. Its width corresponds to the diameter of chakras. This is also a very important energy structure of the organism.

Chakras are organs responsible for the generation of emotions and other psychic states of man.
Among their functions are storage, conversion, and redistribution of the bioenergies inside the organism (these energies can also flow between the chakras or between the chakras and the organs which correspond to the sphere of influence of this chakra).
The channels through which the bioenergies flow are calledmeridians.
There are no “good” or “bad” chakras (though there are such fantasies in the literature).
Each chakra plays its role in the work of the organism.

It is desirable that all chakras be always pure and developed. There are special meditative methods for this purpose.

Chakras and Health
The condition of chakras is closely interrelated with the condition of the organs located in the parts of the body which correspond to particular chakra. Chakras play an important role in supplying the organs with energy, while diseases of the organs negatively affect the condition of chakras.
For example, the following chakras are responsible for the following organs:
— anahata: heart, lungs, arms, and mammary glands;
— manipura: among other organs — stomach and other structures of the digestive system;
— svadhisthana: the organs of reproduction, urinary bladder, legs, and others;
— sahasrara: forebrain hemispheres;
— ajna: the rest of the brain, as well as eyes, ears, nose, and nasopharynx;
— vishudha: the entire neck, thyroid, both jaws, including teeth, and others. (The border between the “spheres of influence” of ajna and vishudha coincides with the palate).
Since the condition of chakras directly influences the functioning of organs located in the same parts of the body, the mere cleansing of the corresponding chakra can easily cure many chronic diseases.
It is important to mention that the work on development of chakras and other subtle structures of organism is incompatible with taking “killed” food, alcohol (even in the form of alcohol-containing milk products) and other psychedelics, since such substances destroy those subtle structures. Breaking this rule causes serious diseases.
Anahata chakra
The main one of all chakras is anahata, because it is with the help of this chakra that one can realize the main purpose of life, i.e. spiritual self-development.
This can be explained as follows:
“God is Love,” — this principal formula was proclaimed by Jesus Christ. Contemporary Avatar Sathya Sai Baba also preaches the same.
It follows from this formula that if we want to merge with God, we, too, have to transform ourselves into Love — into consciousnesses constantly living in the state of Godlike Love. One achieve this though staying constantly with the consciousness in the anahata chakra and being the emotion of love radiated to all people, to all living beings.
Bubbles of Perception
The energy cocoon surrounding human body consists of two unequal parts, which Juan Matus called bubbles of perception.
The division of the cocoon into the two bubbles of perception takes place at the collar-bone level. The upper bubble includes the head and the neck, while the lower one encloses the rest of the body. In other words, the upper bubble includes the upper dantyan, and the lower — the other two and the legs.
The upper bubble is very important for communicating with the material world, while we use the lower bubble for communicating with the non-material one. A spiritual practitioner can perceive from them separately either material world or other worlds.
The quantitative growth of consciousness and meditative work are performed primarily by the lower bubble of perception.
The main part of it is the middle dantyan, refining in and expanding from which one gets closer to Perfection.
Harmonious development of the second important component of the lowerbubble of perception — hara — is also absolutely essential for meditative achievements. But regarding this structure as the basis for spiritual growth, which is typical of many martial arts schools, is a gross mistake.
