There have been many significant things that have happened to me in my life, but one of the most significant things that have happened to me in the last 5 years is probably losing my job last June. I embarked on a journey that would hopefully change my life forever. I decided to start my own business. It was the beginning of an uncertain future, one that would make me understand what it is to struggle and to have the finer things in life. Losing my job and the struggles I went through to start my business have really impacted my life.
This is so significant to me because for the longest time I dreamed of owning my own business. Working for myself and eventually one day having the financial freedom we all dream about. I had been in the staffing/recruiting industry for about 8 years now. I was working for an offshore company handling there offshore personnel. I had been with the company for 2 years when it was affected by the down turn of the economy. Then shortly after that we had the BP explosion that really hurt business and just about all offshore oil rigs had to be evacuated due to the oil spill and government shut down not allowing drilling or any offshore work temporarily. We lost a lot of business during that time and so there was no need for any longer at my job. The day came when I was told I was being laid off. I remember it clearly because it was after the weekend on a Monday. I had just come back from lunch when my boss Niels called me into the office. I walk into his office and sat down, Niels looks at me and says “Pete, I know you probably had a feeling that this was coming, but we are going to have to lay you off.” I wasn’t too surprised when he told me. Luckily I was given a sovereigns package so I wasn’t too impacted. The real struggle was yet to come.
The Essay on Life Struggle On Minimum Wage
Life Struggle on Minimum Wage Sometimes life isn't always as easy as getting a job, making money and paying you bills. In her fascinating book on extended essays Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich poses as an unskilled worker to show the struggles encountered everyday by Americans attempting to live on minimum wage, "matching income to expenses as the truly poor attempting to do everyday." After I got laid off with my longtime friend we started talking about going out on our own and starting our own staffing company. We knew it wouldn’t be easy as first but we knew it was time and it happened at the right time. In a way it was a blessing in disguise being laid off. So we decided to go for it and start the process. We both used half of our sovereign’s money to invest in starting our business. The hardest part was getting setup. We worked for a few weeks’ long hours getting the core of our business set up. Over the years in the staffing industry we built many relationships with various clients in the oil/gas industry. We began reaching out to all of our old contacts about our new venture. We asked if we could help them fill any positions they had open. Things were slow and frustrating at the beginning, but we finally had a break and we signed a contract with a company who is now our biggest client.
ValvTech called us into a meeting and we walked away with 10 open positions they had available. We wasted no time and got to work right away. By this time unemployment checks weren’t cutting it any more. We were both beginning to struggle financially. For the next few weeks were very frustrating, after setting up multiple interviews and having candidates no call no show to interviews, we thought for sure we were about to lose our client. We started to think all was lost, and then finally our hard work paid off. We got an email that Valv wanted to hire 3 of our candidates. Our luck had suddenly changed, and we started to make placements with our client. We finally began to send invoice to our client and they started to pay us. We were on the verge of hitting rock bottom with little to no money and many sleepless nights, we felt that we had jumped over our first hurdle of accomplishing our goals. I knew at this moment that the end of eating Raman noodles and grilled cheese sandwiches was about to come to an end.
Started University Time Work Make
I never realised how important time is until I started university. Getting the best out of you studies in university is forgoing one thing for another. (opportunity cost). When I first started university I was working full time. As time went by I realised that I just could not cope, so I decided to work part-time while studying. I can now cope better with my school work load and can produce a ...
I have been through many ups and downs in my life, but this is very important to me because I now know how it is to struggle on your own and overcome obstacles at times that you almost feel helpless. It taught me many lessons about life and its true what they say, “hard work does pay off”. I now have a great appreciation in life about everything I learned in this process. Even when you start losing faith and you’re on the verge of giving up, we find strengths in ourselves to overcome adversity.
