Myths Are Ridiculous
Mythology dates centuries back when people knew nothing about the world. The stories we find amusing today were people’s way to explain all they could not understand. The lessons children had to know are hidden between the lines of every story and shown as the deeds of the worriors whose example they had to follow in order to be great. Today we don’t need explanations about the world and mythology is used as our way to get to know the past. Science is advanced and we understand what we’re surrounded by. So mythology is no longer needed in our everyday lives. Yet it exists.
Millions of nowaday miths are all over the internet and books full of stories about 21st century heroes told as truth are everywhere. Myths that are indeed ridiculous. And what makes them ridiculous is that we believe them and in fact we have no excuse to. We have the knowledge to doubt. Why don’t we?
Tired of clicking the spam button I’d like to point the first nowaday mith to be those simple and pretty annoying things called chainmail. Because people do believe in them. One gets a message saying that if they don’t send it to 30 people in the next week something really bad would happen. And they do rush and whether send it to everyone in the contact list or every single thing that happens is believed to be due to the ‘mail curse’..And yes,it does sound stupid, but I myself know people that don’t leave the house for a couple of days because they weren’t able to complete the forwarding. I get these every day and ignore them..Until now , if they are to be believed , I am supposed to be burning in hell along with my cat, parents and boyfriend, who has in the mean time broken up with me. Still , I’m home in bed..But people believe those and keep sending and sending…
The Essay on Ordinary People Conrad Calvin Story
Ordinary People is the story of both Conrad and Calvin Jarrett. Because the novel focuses on two different people, there are several conflicts throughout the novel that are specific to those individuals. The central question in Conrad's story is whether he will be able to recover after his suicide attempt. As Dr. Berger points out, half the people who attempt suicide will try to do it again at ...
Or the so called ‘immortality potions’? This time it was my mother’s mail I got the idea from , but indeed there are people that sell potions, which are supposed to make you immortal. And some buy them..The question that couldn’t escape my otherwise untroubled head was why? Even if chemistry or biology weren’t one’s best subject everyone should know immortality is impossible. So what urges people to spend money on something in vain hoping to turn back time. Indeed a few handle ageing well, but still it’s ridiculous how a myth of such essense could fool people. The question who’d want to live forever is a whole different matter…
And of course a topic that I rescently find myself discussing a lot – vampires. Yes,it’s not a nowadays myth. What’s new about it is that Dracula’s children are no longer refered to as bad or unpleasant – they have a whole new amploi. And what’s worse is that more and more people take up the whole vampirism thing way too personal. With a bit of a sad note I’d tell you that even friends of mine somehow decided that drinkind blood is essential to their existance. Look at e-bay..I have never seen more blood extracting devices and sun-protecting clothes. And the books that follow the topic are more than a million already. There are internet communities for vampires So the vampire myth is reborn, that’s ok. But if the past century people fought vampires , today we decided to love them instead. That is ridiculous. Even worse – it’s dangerous and absolutely stupid. But there you have it – teenagers drinking blood in the 21st century.
Ancient mythology is helpful – it gives us an idea about our past and even has a hint of history for us to follow. But today’s myths have nothing to do with lessons to be learned-we have proved them wrong before inventing them. And they are indeed more ridiculous than the ones saying that Zeus sends us lightnings , because we know all the answers, but don’t bother to ask ourselves the questions..So can’t help but wander..aren’t we ridiculous as well?..
