Our city
When we cross these mountains, when we look at those places, where nostalgia invades every cell, the elderly and young people involved emotionally from a pride similar to that of the high peaks that seem to have invaded the skies.
When flips history of the Albanian people special place accoupies the Kukes, the most beautiful place in Albania, Kukes of Islam Spahise , Hoxhe Mehmetit and Sul Elezit together with the Gjallicen stand resolute on the weight of the ages. My memory genetic travels through time and nostalgia grips tightly memories…. Oh my Kukes ……Words bend under the flicker of the same flag….wave-wave your glorious times proudly deposited in the bed of the same country. My genesis together with that of the mountain of mountains travel with me every step of the show that seems like fairies have brings of this city many gifts that “in the cradle”. Greatness of those harsh mountains interlinked with the human feelings of love that seems with enough force to contend with so much strength , know to appreciate the feelings of being not only patriotic but also human.
Kukes extends plateau to the point of joining the Drin i bardh and Drin i zi in hand Fierza lake, at the foot of Mount Gjallica. The name of this town is related to the Kukajve feudal family. Unique in its history lies in the fact that this city is rebuilt: new Kukes construction began in 1962 while the old Kukes was covered by waters in 1978 Fierza. Kukes has a suitable geographical position wich serves as a conection with Kosovo .By disconnecting some of the history to be restored after it is worth mentioning that every year the city was overwhelmed by a versatile vitality has significant developments in education, culture and economy, turning it this way in a town very important not only in north Albania but throughout Albania.A change that has impacted our city is building the tunnel Thirr- Kalimash and construction of highway . Kukes is among those cities in which you can find saved under the traces of history, traditions and habits quite early that saves even more fanaticism. Close eyes and mind goes along with my memory across those areas which lead to a distant world of legends, where the present and the past mix between mountain of hard, proud peaks and deep valley. In my mind come verses of the authors who with their art describe Kukes, a city proud of unstinting…. walk through memories and see the genesis of this city is unique and beautiful at the same time as that every word say may be excessive and deficient simultaneously.
