Health and safety instruction should be made available to all members of staff working within the building. This report will explain the experiences I had while working at West Grove primary school and I will clarify my role as teaching assistant and state these policies and procedures such as safeguarding, children injuries, first aid, dealing, with accidents, how to deal with infection and fire drill evacuation procedures.

A fire drill can help you practice leaving your building quickly and safely. In West Grove primary school fire marshals are the site manager, Head teacher, Deputy Head Teacher and Business Manager of the building to ensure that fire evacuation drills are carried out. West Grove Primary School follows these procedures:
Each room has an emergency evacuation procedure map and One fire marshal will call 999.

Teacher should lead their class out in line quickly check their room and close the door.
Any child not with their class when the fire bell rings, should join the nearest class on their way out and join their own class once the assembly point has been reached.
Teacher should take out their registers. On arrival at the assembly point classes should form a double line facing their teacher so that registers can be checked immediately and report given to the Head teacher or the deputy Head teacher.
Head teacher will check room on the ground floor before existing.

First Aid and dealing with injuries:
Firs aid is the care given to a casualty before professional help arrives. It can be administered by a member of staff who is a trained firs aider. The aims of first aider are:

Moreover, the school’s trained first aider should be responsible for ensuring adequate supply and regular restocking of the firs aid box. Supplies should be date stamped as they are received as they have a five year shelf life.
