Scar is a mark left on the skin after a wound, burn, or sore has healed over. Scar can also mean a lasting effect left on somebody’s mind by a personal misfortune or unpleasant experience. My deepest scar started the day I left my country. It was the most terrified most gruesome trip I ever took in my life.
It was the hottest summer ever. I saw kids playing around the street. Women walking to the market. Dogs screeching for food in the dumpsters. The sun heating the earth with its deadly heat. I was walking home from my friends house. I figure I would go home and get one of my grandmas amazing fresh made lemonade. “Hola abuleta hello grandma.” She didn’t respond. I said hello again she turned around and said hi with no enthusiasm. She had a sad face it seemed like she was crying. I asked what was wrong. She walked towards me and told me that am leaving Mexico. In that moment, I felt happy that I was going to go see my mom; however, I felt sad leaving my family especially my grandma. I started to feel my eyes tear up.
“Mijo son don’t cry. This is a good thing that you are going to Untied States. Your going to have a better life.” said my grandma.
“ I don’t want to leave you grandma. Why does everybody say that am going to have better life in the blanco white country grandma.”
“Moving will be a good change for you mijo. You don’t want to see your mom. Don’t cry you will see its going to be ok.”
I felt a cold rough wrinkled hand on my face. I heard my grandma calling me. I woke up staring at her with fright. She told me to get dress. I got up put my only half ripped up shoes my pants and my nice clean white shirt. “Mijo here take this bag pack . It has a shirt and a sweater. I put the money in the bag pack also.” said grandma.

“Where are we going grandma?”
“Am taking you to the man who is going to lead you to California. Where your mom is. Don’t give the coyote the man the money until he takes all the way to your mom. Do you understand mijo.” said grandma.
“Yes, grandma I understand.”
“Ok then lets go.” said grandma.
My grandma and I walked half a mile from are pueblo town to a ugly crusty old gray truck. I saw couple of women and men getting into the truck, but no children my age. My grandma and I walked to the man who was going to lead me to Untied States. The man looked like hulk on steroids. He had a big black perfect mastache. He looked like a Russian spy.
“I charge $10,000 for a child.” said the man
“ My grand child will give the money until you take him all the way to Untied Sates. If he doesn’t reach his mother in one piece you will not breath amount of air in this world again. Do you understand?” said grandma.
“Wow! I cant believe my grandma made him feel scared.” The man understood and told me to get in the back of the truck. I hugged my grandma so tight. I didn’t won’t to let go. I wanted to cry, but I didn’t want my grandma to think I was scared. With the last words my grandma said don’t be sacred only the weak ones are scared. I love you Mijo.
The man who looked like a Russian spy told us to give off the truck. I looked around we were in the middle of no where. The only thing I saw was sand and cactus. Then the man gave the other passengers and me two gallons of water. He told us that we needed to be focus on this trip. We have to be alert and ready for action. The man said that when he says la migra the immigration we all have to hide or run. All this information made my head hurt. If felt like I was in a spy movie. That all of us were deadly spies tiring to destroy a country and are master was the Russian spy.
Damn was it hot. I felt like I was a fish in in deep fried pan. We only had a breaks during day time. We traveled across the desert at night. All of the sudden, I hear tires rumbling on the earth’s ground. It was coming closer the sound. I say women and men running like crazy away from jeeps. .Right when I saw those jeeps I knew who they were. I didn’t know what to do. I felt weight on my feet I couldn’t run. “Come on you feeble little chicken legs move.”
The Essay on Social hierarchy in “Of mice and men”
Social Hierarchy is a system in which classes exist, with certain classes being ‘above’ others. Since the beginning of society men have almost always followed a social hierarchy. John Steinbeck recreates the social structure during the great depression in his novella Of Mice and Men. In the novel all of the characters fall into three classes in proportion to their ability. All of the ...
“Get down!!!” said the man.
Right when I was going to turn around I felt this muscular heavy body push me down the ground. I tried to make my fall less painful by putting my fingers under my chest. I heard a cracking sound. Before I could scream this painful feeling I had around my hands, man on top of me covered my mouth with his Bigfoot hands. He picked me up and run to a safer place. I heard the man say lets go people. I say women and men running towards us. I felt dizzy and light headed. I fainted into the dark on top of a the man’s shoulder.
I woke up next to a fire and the hulk man treating my hands if they were my hands. My hands looked like they been crushed by a meat cutter. I could see all teen of my finger bones popping out from my flesh. Blood oozing out like a waterfall.
“Don’t move boy”, said the man.
I new what he was going to do, but I didn’t want him to do it. I yelled, screamed, with all my heart. The man started to put my finger bones back into place one by one. I could hear each 10 of my broken fingers bones go back into my place. The man started to break little sticks. He cut 10 sticks the same size of my fingers. He started to place one stick on each of my fingers. He started to cut thin long cloth from his shirt. He tied each cloth around my fingers to hold the stick in place. More blood began to come out as the man tied the string around the stick and my fingers. I fainted again when he was done with the last finger. I guess the last is the worst pain. I woke up cared by the man’s back. He saw that I wakened and dropped me off his back.
“Here eat this. It will make the pain go away.” said the man.
He gave me a green leafy plant. “You want me to eat this.”
“Yes if you don’t desire more pain.” said the man.
I started to eat it. Thank god am not a vegetarian. That plant was horrible. It tasted like sweaty socks. I started to feel a tingle around my body. I couldn’t feel my pain from my hands. My hands actually looked pretty cool. They looked like a mummy hand rapped with white cloth. I could only see the tips of my nails and the sticks ends. For a few minutes I couldn’t even feel my cheeks or my tongue. They felt numb. I punched my cheeks hard enough to knock a few teeth out, but I couldn’t feel that punch to the cheeks. I bit my tongue to hard I didn’t know I was bleeding from the bit marks I punctured through my flesh. I spit puddles of blood on the ground. If I wasn’t numb by that plant this would have hurt.

We finally arrived to the Rio Grande the large river. This river was massive. The water was going crazier as if the river itself was anger. The man started to explain that we need to hold on to the rope crossing the river. He told us it doesn’t matter if we are good swimmers. You won’t survive the fast moving water. Water seemed like a demon ready to drown you if you take the wrong step. The man told me to follow him because I could barley grab the rope with my mummy crippled hands. I tried not to use to much force to hold on to the rope, but once I reached the water I felt a heavy force pulling me. I grabbed the rope as hard I could. I let out a scream. I heard a squish sound instead of a crack sound from my hands. I could see the white cloth around my hands turn into bright red color. Blooded started to fall into the river from my hands.
I reached the other side the river safely. The man started to get a cloth and started to keep my hands from losing too much blood. He took out the stick on top of my ten fingers. He rapped my hands again with a white cloth. This time he rapped the white cloth around my hands hard enough to hear a squish sound making my undetached flesh closed around my hands. My hands stopped bleeding and I eat more of that nasty plant.
“Look boy we made it.” said the man.
I saw a enormous metal fence around the border. I couldn’t believe it . I felt a warm feeling around my body. I saw thousand of moving cars passing the highway. The man told the others and me to follow him. He started to dig a hole on the ground like a dog. He took out a hacksaw from the hole he made. He started to cut the bottom of the tall metal fence. He cut a big enough of a hole so the women, men, and I could fit through.
