Snapping Hip Syndrome
When I was a freshman in college I suffered from Snapping Hip Syndrome. I had to do physical therapy everyday along with electroshock therapy. I would ice it after practice and weightlifting and a lot of days would have to take a 15 minute ice bath to help numb the pain that I would get. On the occasional day I decided to work out and weight lift my hip will still pop and my muscles the next day a lot of times will still pop.
According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons snapping hip is the feeling of a snapping sensation or popping sound in your hip. This can happen when you are walking, running, working out, or even just standing up. This occurs when a muscle or tendon “snaps” over your hip. There are three main causes of Snapping Hip Syndrome. iliotibial band Syndrome is the most common cause of the injury, in which the iliotibial band snaps over the greater trochanter. If this is what’s causing then snapping of the hip, patients may develop hip bursitis. Iliopsoas Tendon Snap, which is the injury I endured, is when the iliopsoas tendon, primary hip flexor, catches on a bony prominence of the pelvis and causes a snap when the hip is flexed. The least common is the Hip Labral Tear which is a tear of the cartilage within the hip joint. The loose flap of cartilage catches within the joint, causing the snapping sensation. This cause of snapping hip syndrome may also cause an audible pop and an unsteady feeling ( About.com- Orthopedics)
The Term Paper on Pop Music Through The Decades
1950’s The 1950’s where so called the birth of popular music. The first half of the decade was run by popular music, or classic pop. This more vocal driven music had replaced the earlier big band style. Artists such as Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra where the leaders of this age of traditional pop. There are some things you can do to help with this injury that don’t involve a doctor. You can reduce the activity level and apply ice to the area, take ant-inflammatory drugs, modify your sport or exercise activties to avoid repetitive movement of the hip. If you are feeling pain in your hip your doctor may ask you to do some simple physical therapy excerises. These exercises may include Iliotibial band stretches and Piriformis stretches. If physical therapy doesn’t reduce your pain your doctor may recommend a corticosterroid injection to reduce painful inflammation. In some situations the doctor may recommend surgery to loosen the tendons or remove the loose piece of cartilage.
Hip problems run in my family. My grandpa has really bad joints from being in Veitnam during the war. My mom had to have her hip replace when she was in her mid 20s and again in her late 30s. I have had problems since I was in at least grade school. My hip gave out on me while running bases in softball practice, I had tendonitis in my hip my junior year of high school during volleyball season, and most recently my snapping hip syndrome. I have come to terms with the fact that I will most likely have bad hips the rest of my life and especially since the physical therapy didn’t really rid the pain for me.
