INTRODUCTION:
The guar or cluster bean is an annual legume and the source of guar gum.
* It is assumed to have developed from the African species C.senegalesis
* Guar grown well in arid to semiarid areas, but frequent rain fall is necessary.
* A bout 80% of world production occurs in India and Pakistan but due to strong demand the plant is being introduced into new areas.
CULTIVATION:
Climate Requirements:
* Guar is very drought tolerant and sun loving but it is very susceptible to frost. Even though it can cope with little but regular rainfall it requires sufficient soil moisture before planting and during maturation of seeds.
* Frequent drought periods can lead to delayed maturation.
* On the contorary too much moisture during early phase of growth and after maturation leads to lower seed quality.

LAND PREPARATION:
Soil Requirements:
* Cyamopsis tetragonoloba can grow on a wide range of different soil types. Preferably in fertile medium tenhered and sandy loam soils that are well-drained because water logging decrease plant performance.
* In respect of soil acidity, guar grows best in moderate alkaline condition (ph 7-8) and is tolerant of salinity.
* Thanks to its taproots which are inoculated with rhizobia nodules, it produces nitrogen rich biomass and improves soil quality.
Time and Sowing:
Early crop is sown from February n march and the main crop is sown with advent of monsoon, at the end of June or in beginning of July .In certain areas sowing is intend to September – October
Seed Rate:
The seed rate is 5 to 8 kg/hectare.
Layout and Spacing:
In layout flat bed and spacing 60*30 cm is recommended by P.K.V Akola.

Not necessary for guar plants
Phosphorus:
Often limiting USA: superphosphate 200 to250 kg/hectare N,P2O5 and K2O recommendation for the crop is 20 :60:80 kg/hectare(18:53:71 Lb/acre).Average yield is 5 to 6 tones/ hectare(2.2 to 2.6 tone/acre).
IRRIGATION:
Irrigation should be given in early sown cluster been whence it is necessary .There is need for irrigation for rainy season crop.
HARVESTING:
The green pods for vegetable purposes are harvested from the plant by twisting or by cutting, when the attain the marketable sye.Harvesting or picking of green pods is continued over a considerably long because they continue arising as the plant grows
