The Death Penalty Should be Re-introduced in South Africa
The death penalty should be abolished says the humanist; The death penalty shouldn’t be abolished says the community. Well the death penalty is a controversial topic, and it is difficult to have it and also difficult to not have it. What is Capital punishment? Capital punishment is the death penalty. It is used today and was used in ancient times to punish a variety of offenses. Even the bible advocates death for murder and other crimes like kidnapping and witchcraft. I will deal with both sides in broad later, but with my research so far and my knowledge of the earth and history and movies etc. the death penalty should exist in my opinion. It’s bizarre to let people be able to kill and simply serve a jail sentence and thereafter can even be pardoned. Does it make sense? When most courts decided to remove the penalty, they had not experienced empathy? You want the killer of your baby daughter to live? is that fair? you work for your creation whom God gifted you with? I believe the bible says we must forgive. We can forgive but does justice come with that? The death penalty has been there for a long time. There’s a reason our ancestors introduced it/had it, not because they were uncivilized or they were cruel or underdeveloped. Not much has changed from then but technology and the church having less power than it used to have.
The origins of the death penalty can be traced back to the bc times in the ancient Egypt in king Hammurabis code, which had ”an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth” And for that there’s a perfect reason why throughout the years it was regarded as a just punishment until, well here in South Africa that is) 1995, in the case of S v Mwakwanyane where the court questioned whether it was an infringement of peoples human rights and their right to life. In my opinion when it comes to the question of equality everything should be “what I do is what I expect.” If I kill and I just go to prison, I am satisfied. I still have a life. I am supplied with everything I need, my family can visit me in prison. So why not? Now if I know that the I am going to die if I murder someone, will I dare even try? The death penalty installs fear in an individual that shall he kill he faces having his life terminated.

People need to be punished according to how they committed the crime thus we must keep in mind 3 things: all guilty people deserve to be punished; only guilty people deserve to be punished; guilty people deserve to be punished in proportion to the severity of their crime
There are many victims of a single murder. The criminal gets caught, tried, and convicted, and it is understood that the punishment will be severe. But the person he has killed no longer has a part to play in this. Unfortunately, the murderer has deprived his family and friends of a loved one. It may not end with the murderer’s execution, but the execution does engender a feeling of relief at no longer having to think about the ordeal—a feeling which often fails to arise while the murderer still lives on. A system in place for the purpose of granting justice cannot do so for the surviving victims, unless the murderer himself is put to death.
The death penalty should exist, only in cases of serious insanity should it be questionable. Every state should have a a good team of psychologist to measure the level of insanity of a person and as to whether they have lucid intervals, should they commit a murder during a lucid interval they should be punished by death.

In our constitution s35 the courts must consider International law and may consider foreign law. He went on saying “I hold life sacred, and because I hold it sacred” I believe life is sacred, therefore, one who takes a life should have his own life taken away, too. The Lord said in Exodus “Thou shall not kill!”. It is one of the Ten Commandments. Therefore let us create a society in which we we’ re not afraid to let our kids go to the park because there’s a strange man who wants to kidnap them or kill them, many people are scared of death.
