The End of Swagger
Summary
Anna Quindlen wrote an article about the future of American foreign policy with the recent change in administration. In it, she expressed a hope that the welfare (bunastare) of women would be a key component of American foreign policy. There was not a country on earth that had not heard of Hillary Clinton (and Barack Obama).
Their partnership in leading the new face of America’s diplomacy abroad gave hope to those who were frustrate with the militaristic, macho agenda of the past. Their teamwork on foreign policy promised a paradigm shift. Together they could use the negotiating power of the U.S. to “pursue policies that emphasized collaboration and connection instead of confrontation.”As an example, the author of the article quote Clinton’s speech from Beijing given several years ago at a United Nations conference on women: “…human rights are women’s rights….women must enjoy the rights to participate fully in the social and political lives of their countries if we want freedom and democracy to thrive and endure. Many shared the view that the way for a nation to foster prosperity and growth was to give women a voice, give them rights, improve their well-being, and listen to women’s concerns. According to the global fund for women, two thirds of the world’s poorest people are female.Women make up about 16% of parliament members worldwide. If we are interested in promoting education, good government and prosperity, the U.S. must focus on the welfare of women. It is time for the U.S. foster development around the world in a positive way. If we want to see lasting change in the world, give the women a chance to make it happen.
The Essay on Role Of Woman In World War 1
Throughout history, the roles of women have changed dramatically. Women have been enslaved, been stripped of their rights, been given more rights, have been put down in society and been brought up. Women slowly, but surely have evolved into individuals one sees today: in public office, law firms or even the five o’clock news. However, this evolution did not occur overnight. It took time and ...
The title “The end of the Swagger”is misleading because the reader can’t uderstand at the firt sight what is the article about, but is also recurrent, because is present in the text:”An American foreign policy informed by swagger has been a conspicuous failure, making the United States not respected but reviled.”
The theme of the article is women’s rights and society
The idea is that in some places these rights are supported by law, local custom, and behaviour, whereas in others they may be ignored. They differ from broader notions of human rights and the main cause of the women’s rights abuse in society is the lack of education.
One of the problems that article touches upon is that women do most of the good stuff and get most of the bad. Also women need to realize that their position in society is equal to that of the men in their society not below them.Limiting their education, the society limits women of reaching their full.In my opinion this is an interesting and a very telling article, one that people can learn from. Through using real life examples of how women’s roles are changing in the world emphasizes the author’s point that all women should be treated equal to men in government, especially when she states how Liberian women in Africa protested their all-male government until they decided to acknowledge women’s rights, and now the Liberian president is a woman.Of course, because I am a female, I am more convinced to agree with the author on her point in this article. It is true that Hilary Clinton, despite her gender, is a very influential leader and is easily compariable to the top male politicians today. The most convicing point that the author made was the fact that many policies created (by males) in the past have been corrupt and have failed, so why not let women have their chance to make their own policies and see how successful or non-successful they are and then judge their abilities to lead a nation.
