“The Speed Of Film”
Imagine a world of utter spectacular perfection, so beautiful and amazing that one must share it with everyone possible. The only problem is that they cannot see the creation that is locked in your mind. Sure one could describe these tales through vivid writing, but it will still seem to lack substance. It is said that, “One picture is worth ten thousand words” (Fred R. Barnard, 1927) and yet even a single imagine falls short of an imagination. However, the speed of film has managed to capture even the most creative of minds. High resolution film moves with 60 perfectly sequenced frames per second. This is more than enough to portray a clear view of someone’s imagination, especially since the average movie is approximately an hour and a half. Meaning that when your ideas move at the speed of film there are 4.68 billion pictures that are each worth ten thousand words. That means that a single film is able to do the work of 46.8 trillion words. That is hard proof that film is the only way to express your thoughts that will be able to do your imagination justice. This is why a career in the film industry is such an exciting thought. Film experts say, “A movie producer has the most important position in film production” (Film Production, 2010) they get to oversee everything from the top and are in charge of the entire production. From pre-production to post-production, they get to dab their talents into a little bit of everything.
The Essay on Film Production Descriptive
The development stage is one of the most crucial stages for a producer, it is where you get the chance to plan every aspect of your production before you begin pre-production and production. The chance to get the ball rolling right. During the discovery stage of the film it is the producers role to obtained rights or an option to a film that he thinks is promising, if the rights owner is worried ...
The average person would say that a director is the most important person on the set. They are the most powerful, but certainly not the most important. All of the professions are important when creating a film, but each has its own specific field of expertise. For example, set designers only designs the set. This is the same for a director; he or she watches over the production and makes the hard decisions. A producer gets to be more creative with their work. Dudley Andrew, a professor of film, says, “I find it more useful… to build an overall view of film” (Concepts of Film Theory, page 3) which is exactly what a producer does. Since they are observing the project as a whole they are going to be able to help out with all the major aspects of filming. Such as the cinematography, lighting, and editing. Producers also have to help out with the other aspects, as well as the business portion of film production. However, the best part about video production is the editing because that’s where the magic happens. This is the stage of production where effects are added onto raw footage to make dreams into a reality.
The minimum educational requirement for a producer is a bachelor’s degree. It is not crucial to have a formal education in film production; however it has the potential to increase the chance of you getting hired. In this fast industry it is more about who you know rather than what you know. A great example of this phenomenon can be found in James Cameron’s biography, A Drive of Titanic Proportions. This biography details his ascent from making small independent films, to large box office hits without the aid of education. Although he is a not a producer, it still shows that you do not need an education to succeed in the film industry. James Cameron is now commonly known as the director of the latest 3D feat, Avatar. He was not always this famous though. He was born in Kapuskasing Canada, and grew up wanting to work with film. He carried that goal throughout his high school career and into college, which he attended in Niagara Falls. A few years into his studies he dropped out of college and began making independent films with his friends. After several years of struggling to break into the mainstream Hollywood film industry he finally got a break with Piranha II: Spawning Ground due to his social status. While working on that he made connections with more people and was now being taken more seriously. Now that he was a credible director he was able to pitch his other movie ideas to larger film corporations. From then on he continued writing and directing films such as Titanic, Abyss, and Terminator. He may not have a formal film education, but because of his socialization and determination he was able to become one of the most renowned directors of our century.

One of the first pieces of film ever recorded was done by Eadweard Muybridge. He was sponsored by one of his colleagues, Leland Stanford, to attempt to record a horse in motion. He achieved this by setting up a series of cameras timed to each go off one after another when a horse came galloping by. Once he had all of the pictures, he put them together in sequential order, much like the process of making a flip book. A breakthrough was made in 1889, by William Friesed-Greene, who created the chronophotograph camera. It was capable of taking up to ten photos every second using perforated celluloid film. This revolutionized the idea of film making. As a result of Friese-Greene’s technology, in 1893 Glen W. Dickenson created a better, more practical camera. He called it the kinetograph. It was capable of instantaneously taking several pictures on to Kodak 35mm film strips. With this kind of technology in motion, people were finally able to start making ‘picture shows’. This amazing invention brought life to the ‘video tape’, enabling videographers and filmmakers to capture the greatest parts of Earth that the majority had never seen. For the first time, a construction worker could see the pyramids, or even the Eiffel Tower.
Although feature-length film making did not take place till the mid nineteen hundreds, other forms of art existed that had similar elements. Live Theatre was the ultimate entertainment before people gathered to watch the latest block buster movie. Unlike films, they were not recorded, but rather performed live by actors. This is nearly the only difference; all the essential core elements are the same. They both tell a story, have actors, design elements, directors, and an audience. However, one of the differences between the two is that the live performances could change from one show to the next from human error, though the overall story remained the same. (Theatre, 2010)
The Essay on The Effect of Editing in the films Alien & In Bruges
Before a film is edited, it is just an array of shots with no sequence or pure structure. Editing ties these shots together; defining the feel, sequence, and overall direction the film will take. Shots are not simply patched together. There are many techniques in which the editing team can set the pace of the film. Some films choose to be continuous and logical, each event occurring in ...
For my job shadow I will be observing a video producer for The CW Channel 32. They are the regional distributors of great shows such as Smallville, One Tree Hill, Gossip Girl, and Nikita. Although I am job shadowing this production studio, I do not share the same interest in content. I want to be a film producer of movies, or television shows that are not for thirteen year old girls. However, this will still be a good experience for me because it will allow me to see how the daily operations of a production studio. It will be a good work experience for me that will help me get a leg up in the filming community. Most studios and film colleges want you to have a little experience working in the field. The more experience you can obtain, the more qualified you are for the film industry.
When working in the film industry, salaries and pay scales can vary depending on the person and project you are working on. Different products can yield different amounts of income. For example, if one was working on a film, and it became a huge hit, then one’s yearly salary could be in the millions. However, most people do not make it big for a long time, and many never do. Most producers right out of college end up interning on a set or doing another film related job that is not necessarily producing. A 2006 study shows that the average salary of a film producer can range from 30,000 dollars to 80,000 dollars annually, and above. The average salary for someone who works on television shows, you can expect a salary from 40,000 dollars to 70,000 dollars annually, and above. Of course this is all speculative, and depends on the type of project and the quality of the work one can produce. If one can become a very well established producer, one will not have to look for work; People will seek one out and one’s annual salary can increase on the amount of work taken on. For most beginning producers, this is a freelance career, which means that the individual does not identify with any particular film studio and they must search for job opportunities. When doing a freelance style of work one’s pay can fluctuate from high to low each month, depending on how steady the work flow is. If one can get on with a studio then one’s salary will be more concrete. They will make sure that there is a steady stream of work in exchange for a portion of the profit.
