Teens under the age of 21 should not be required to drive with a passenger who is 21 or older because an individual’s maturity should be based on the person not their age. Maturity is a quality that is gained over time, not something you instantaneously posses once turning a specific age. It doesn’t matter what age you are, you have to get experience in order to master something. Having a chaperone is pointless because they’re not teaching the person anything they haven’t already learned in driving school and ultimately neglects the concept of responsibility for driving. Also, there is no just evidence supporting the fact that the driver’s chaperone has better judgment than the underage driver. Telling a senior citizen they’re not eligible to drive because they’re too old is equally illogical as telling a teen (even though they’ve gotten their credentials) they have to be chaperoned while driving.
Professor Danny Cass, from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, said “The need for greater restrictions on novice drivers was driven by evidence that more teenage lives could be saved”. But, an interesting recent study in 2006 at the Pacific Institute of Research and Evaluation (PIRE) contradicts that comment stating that 7,169 adults from ages 25-34 are killed in car accidents annually whereas the annually number for adolescents from 16-20 was only 5.658. Meaning there’s about a 12% higher chance that the chaperone will crash before the underage driver will. But in reality car accidents
The Essay on Should the age of obtaining a driving license in Malaysia be increased to 21 years old
Year by year the accident rate in Malaysia has been on a steady hike. Various factors are said to be the contributors for this hike. However, one prominent factor has been a topic for debate in recent years. It is claimed that newly licensed teenagers have helped to increase the number of serious accidents than any other group on the road. For this reason, I believe that the age of obtaining a ...
are going to happen regardless, whether the age requirement is reduced or raised. Raising the age requirement is pointless, will frustrate teens, and like many rules, will be frequently broken. The law says at 18 you posses the age of consent where you are legally obligated to live on your own and make your own decisions. Therefore, if the law allows you to become an adult at 18 you should not be required to be supervised under any circumstances.
“Age doesn’t guarantee maturity” was a perfectly stated quote made by Lawanna Blackwell that basically implies just because a person is of age, doesn’t mean they have the mental component of maturity. The mental component is the pivotal element of maturity you should have while being behind the wheel. Once reaching the age of 18 it is assumed you have the knowledge of good and bad decision making. So as long as you have that knowledge it is no longer up to anybody else to assist you with it. Spending money or getting a job isn’t required to be accompanied by someone who’s 21, so neither should driving. Essentially, these things are taught to you and then eventually done on your own. Only time can help you master this characteristic, not age.
If the age limit to drive unsupervised is 21 then teens shouldn’t be able to get any type of licensed credential until they are 21. There is no reason to give them this responsibility if you feel they aren’t old enough. They only sat through countless classes, passed the aptitude test, and exhibited the necessary technical ability to a professional driving instructor in order to drive. That means nothing. They have to wait a few more years for them to acquire the proper amount of maturity right? Wrong, it they passed all these examinations the only thing left up to them at that point decision making and that will only be gained through responsibility. Responsibility is not being given to a person if they are being supervised.
Age will never substitute experience. It is unjust to automatically give a 40 year old man who just received his license and has never drove before the responsibility to drive on his own, but tell a 20 year old adolescent who has perfected the skill that he has to wait another year to drive on his own. Raising the limit will only have older less experienced driver. Reducing the age limit will give drivers experience earlier. This should be a parental rather than legal matter. A parent who knows their child better than a communistic law should be the dictator on whether their child should or not.
The Essay on Drinking Age Legal Alcohol Responsibility
One controversial debate in the United States concerns the legal drinking age. Some believe the drinking age should be reduced from 21, and others believe it should be remain the same. The minimum legal drinking age varies from 0 to 21 around the world. In my opinion the National Minimum Drinking Age Act should be changed to allow 18 to 21 years olds the ability to purchase and consume alcohol. ...
My resolution to this law is for people under the age on 21 to have a sticker on the windshield of their car representing they have the consent of a person over 21 to drive. This sticker will have the same significance to underage drivers as it does for handicapped stickers to the disabled and DOD stickers to civilian. You will have to register for the sticker at a local DMV and have a chaperone 21 or older to co-sign for you, stating you are responsible and mature enough to drive. The only people eligible for the sticker are those who already have their licensed driving credentials. If that person is arrested while driving or is proven to be at fault in a car crash, the co-signer will be fined and the driver will be stripped of his sticker and will not be eligible to register for another one.
This rule now gives the teen responsibility, experience, and a chance to mature. Also, it would somewhat fulfill the legal systems idea of having the driver being chaperoned because they have the consent of an adult who would have been in the car with them anyway.
