Employees can receive help and advice about problem they may be having at work through a trade union representative. They can help an employee by discussing any concerns an employee may have, accompany them to disciplinary hearings, represent them in negotiations over pay etc.
If a grievance is raised the trade union representative can support the employee by presenting their case, for example, or speak on their behalf.
5. Identify employer and employee responsibilities for equality and diversity in a business environment. You should give at least two employer responsibilities and two employee responsibilities.
If possible, provide relevant equality and diversity procedures from your workplace (or place of study) to support your answer. These documents should be annotated to highlight the relevant sections.
Employers have an obligation to provide employees with a safe work environment, free from discrimination, harassement and intimidation. Without the proper training and management, a diverse work place can become ground for behaviour and actions that rise to the level of unlawful and unfair employment practices. Therefore employers have several responsibilities concerning diversity.
Employer responsibilities:
Provide staff with training on these topics
Develop policies and procedures to address equality and diversity issues
Employee responsibilities:
Treat people fairly, with dignity and respect
Support policies in place in the organisation

By following health, safety and security procedures anyone is less likely to cause risks to their personal welfare at work. Reducing the risks and hazards in your work place helps contribute towards this.
Doing this will prevent injuries and illness to self and others.
Following security procedures will ensure the protection of personal data, property and equipment.
3. Describe three different ways of maintaining a safe and secure business environment.
1- Fire safety: Follow fire safety regulations, ensure an assembly point, clear fire exits, clear labelling.
2- Introduce policies and procedures to inform employees of the risks and responsibilities at work. Ensure this are covered in employees’ training
3- Use surveillance as appropriate to deter and secure (cctv, alarm, security guards)

Verbal communications is simply speaking. This can be done on one-on-one, in a group setting, over the phone. It’s a personal means of communication and is best when you need to discuss something in details.
Written communication is the most appropriate when detailed instructions are required, when something needs to be documented, or when the recipient is too far away to talk to in person or on the phone.

There are many reasons for an organisation to change. For an employee, it is important to take on new challenges and adapt to change because an organisation is unlikely to always stay the same. Employees who can adapt to change are more valuable to an organisation than the ones who resist it. These employees will more likely build up their career, gain new responsibilities.
3. Explain the purpose of treating others with honesty and consideration.
Treating others with honesty and consideration is likely to make others treat you in the same way in return. “Behaviour breeds behaviour”
Treating others in this way will create a positive environment and atmosphere in the work place, and help teamwork.

It is important to meet work standards and deadlines so as to ensure that the organisation meets its goal and objectives. It also ensures that efficiency is achieved within the organisation. Failure to meet work standards and deadlines leads to disruption or organisational activities and losses can be experienced.

There are different ways to keep others informed about progress, such as face to face updates, emails, phone conversations, and memos.
Face to face updates are very personal, detailed and thorough. However, this method can be time consuming
Emails are quick, easy and accurate. However there is a limited form of information transferred, and they require time to read.
Phone conversations can be personal, quick, short and flexible on details. However, people can overhear you. If you need to be talking to more than one person about individual matters, this can be difficult.
Memos are short notes. They are concise, down to the essential. However they lack of details, they can be vague and lack security.

The purpose of continuously improving your performance in a business environment is to exceed your limitations, to achieve personal goals, to increase income, self motivation, satisfaction.
Efficiency and effectiveness increase productivity which benefits the business.
2. Describe at least two ways of improving your performance at work. Where relevant, illustrate your answer with specific examples from your own experience.
Performance at work can be improve through learning from mistakes, learning from observation of others, and learning from performance review.
3. Identify at least two different types of career pathways or options that may be available to you.
Options that may be available to me would moving from my position of customer service advisor on the helpdesk onto a helpdesk advisor in IT or Maintenance
I could also apply for a position in a totally different department within the business, such as logistics assistant for instance.

Two problems that can occur in a business are for example transportation problems which could cause disruption in getting goods to the business, power cuts, computer crashing which could delay work completion.

Any technical fault that involves your computer should be reported to the IT technician.
Any issues with missing supplies should be reported to line manager.

If I realise that I will struggle to meet a deadline to complete a task, I can work through my lunch break, or overtime, to ensure it is completed on time, and avoid delaying everything that depends on this task being done in time.
If a printer runs out of toner, I can get a new cartridge and replace it myself without having to notify anyone or take some of their time.
However, if for instance a supplier is unable to deliver to us on time, I could get another supplier to deliver, although we may have to pay a little more. I do not have the authority to make the final decision on this, so I would have to alert my manager.
If tills in our stores stop working and no transactions can be completed, this potentially means closing the store until the issue is resolved. In this instance, I would alert the operations manager, as well as our IT heldpdesk, for an engineer to attend as soon as possible
